Polyphia’s long awaited 4th album “Remember That You Will Die” has finally arrived and I feel as though it satisfied expectations. The album is full of new contemporary sounds with features from artists like $not, Chino Moreno and Lil West. Now that the anticipation will no longer fuel Polyphia’s growth, I do believe this may be the peak for this band in terms of exposure. Polyphia’s new album may very well be their peak.

  1. This album feels like an introduction to where they are going as well as an homage to where they came from. We have tracks like Ego Death and Playing God to showcase where the sound is headed and then we have other tracks that could fit into their old albums. I've been following the boys since 2013 and they have a trend of putting out a completed sound, following it up with an exploratory sound, putting out the new completed sound, etc. They are 100% in an exploratory phase again. The album is a banger but I'm really curious about the next one.

  2. Great review, you've made some very good points !
I pretty much agree with everything you said, although for me FAAFO does have some good energies, even though it's definitely not the best on the album and it's not as interesting musically.
I don't think every song has to be highly technical for it to be good, but it's a matter of taste. Personally I also enjoy rap so the combo works for me.
One thing you didn't mention is the album length, am I the only one who thinks 40 min is just pretty short? Considering the amount of time they've been working on this album, I feel like they could lengthen some of the songs, I don't really get the 2 min song thing, maybe it's to attract a younger crowd with shorter attention span, idk
Now I really hope they don't take another 4 years with album 5 😝

  3. I'd argue that Polyphia's end won't come with stagnation but rather the individual band members realizing their talents can be much more lucrative in other ways. $not was featured because I believe Tim had worked with him before for $not's music – it's only a matter of time before the industry starts coming to them for line fills, or they get offered to be a touring guitarist, etc. I see Polyphia ending when it becomes a passion project and one of them is on a world tour with some pop artist or something. As a listener it would be a bummer for us, but for them as musicians, it could be life changing.

  4. well Herman li has said to tim many times 'They love you until they love you' so in a sense i guess tim and the guys are lowkey bracing for a downfall but hopefully they are aware of this and make an effort to stay relevant

  5. I love their first 2 albums and new levels has some really interesting songs but I'm not feeling this new album much. It's jam packed with talent but I don't see much replayablity

  6. Wow you are criminally slept on. Wonderful breakdown, very well spoken, perfect editing. Genuinely one of the best album reviews I've seen on YouTube and otherwise.

  7. As much as I like this album, I kind of agree about Fuck Around. Before hearing it I thought we might get another Look, But Don't Touch style of track, but with a rapper instead of a singer. It honestly does feel a bit off, and I really think Snot could've come up with better lyrics. It strikes me as more of something you'd find randomly on SoundCloud or something, instead of a full feature. Other than that, I personally love everything about this album. I've got the Bloodbath Version of the CD on its way, which features instrumentals of all the tracks with vocals, so it'll be interesting to see if I can find more to like from Fuck Around and Find Out. Maybe I'm missing something for the lyrics. Only time will tell.

What is interesting is Tim and Scott have said that of all the songs on the new album, they look forward to playing that one the most, and it's turning out to be the least popular song on the entire album. lol

  8. One of my complaints is that we’ve waited 4 years for 39 minutes.

Also, the singles they put out take on a whole different perspective when taking into account the placement of them in the album and the overall sound of the album as a whole. They do for me , at least.

  9. I liked fuck around and find out. My biggest issue with the album is the songs in general… Polyphia sounds like nothing else. Adding all these songs is fine but I wished they'd make them a bit more experimental

  10. Will Polyphia lose their current momentum? Most likely.
Will that affect the band's quality? Eh, it depends on how much they want to capitalize said momentum. i mean, they took a lot of time between NLND and RTYWD, instead of capitalizing NLND's success, but it seems RTYWD is getting even more hype in the scene. At the end it all depents of how Tim, Scott, Clay G and Clay A play their cards in the long run.
With all that said, yeah, some fans will leave eventually no matter what, not only the band is trying to capitalize their arise, and these people will move on into the next big thing as soon as they can. i don't think this particular thing will affect the band in a significant way.

  11. I don't agree that polyphia is at their peak, i think the opposite will happen, every album they put out their features are getting more and more famous, if anything, polyphia will probably break their way into mainstream music, being less experimental and more catchy hook/riffs based, colaborating with hella rappers and maybe even some pop artists, this album was them trying to figure out their new sound.

Cause polyphia isn't really a known band, at least not outside of the prog/guitar world, their underground, but because of their music influences they have the potential to get big, like really big, and people may even call them sellouts for doing so as it happens with every band that gets popular, but idk, i think they have a long way to go.

And if not polyphia, i think at least tim will get big, if not as an artist then it will be as a producer, he seems to be caught on that mainstream music world more than the others, who knows, he might even go solo after album 5

  12. Polyphia's recent US tour was with another band called Unprocessed that also released an album recently called Gold and I'd love to see your thoughts on that album if you ever have the time or desire to check it out!

  13. Cool vid! Really liked your take on everything. It felt mostly unbiased. I don’t entirely agree with your opinions on the songs but opinions on the songs are just that, taste-based opinions. Like I’m super into technical stuff but I really enjoyed the $not track. I definitely get your stance on it though. It’s a way to get out there and get more reach

  14. Loved this vid, never seen you before but instant sub. Great analysis. I honestly like FAFO, not as much as a Polyphia song but in a vacuum. It’s a pretty good song, maybe just not as good as it could’ve been. I think bloodbath may have been my fav but I’m super biased. Chino Moreno is one of my fav vocalists, I freaked out so hard when I saw that collab.

  15. This is my first time seeing your content in my feed. That being said, you’ve hit the nail on the head for me with most of this video.
I can only hope you’re wrong about their peak. In either case, the thing that Polyphia has going for them is most of their fans are also musicians. Unlike other artists, musicians are going to stay hype about their product as long as they are pushing it. There’s a lot to be said about that, but the best example is CHON. At the end a lot of their music was well crafted but not fun to listen to. That was the reason they plummeted. If they had recognized their initial fan base from Newborn Sun, and actually wrote music that resembled what brought them to the stage, I think they’d still be selling shows. They lost their identity. I predict Polyphia won’t have that problem, and I also predict the popularity and success of Polyphia will undoubtedly dip but will rise from those ashes. These guys are truly resourceful and creative beyond words. They are and have been pushing musical boundaries. I don’t think they’ll be stopping any time soon.

  16. First time ever seeing your vids and let me preface my statement by saying that I like your style of I’m sorry but I 100% disagree with your analysis of FAFO. God watch Tim’s vid he dropped today. He’s doing other sheeit during $not’s vocals that maybe you missed. I’m saying, FAFO is a banger but I’m not saying you’re not allowed your opinion/thoughts/feelings about something, I just think you’re not hearing what’s going on fully. Regardless, you have a new sub and a like.

  17. Tim mentioned on stream that he saw a video of a guy saying that Polyphia's peaked (It was definitely this video). He countered it by saying that they constantly change styles so peaking isn't a worry. Idk both Tim and you make good points

  18. If you take the voice out of Memento Mori it really sounds like an instrumental Polyphia song from the previous album.

As for Fuck Around And Find Out, it reminds me of those videos of people playing an instrument along a viral video (like Cardi B with Piano or Karen Metal).

  19. I loved your review man! You mentioned you had never heard of anything like the song audacity, it is EXTREMELY similar to a band from the mod 70s Brand X. Check out the song nuclear burn and you will hear it immediately lol. Really amazing track.

  20. I think the reason they won't have a downward trend at all is because they don't release albums very frequently. People will completely forget about them for a couple of years and then when Tim starts releasing little riffs again the craze will start building again.

  21. Nah man, i think you’re being super pessimistic about this. I’m not the biggest polyphia fan but this is their first album I’ve been excited for. Yeah there’s a lot of bandwagoners but I think that’s what’ll ultimately launch them forward. Them being an instrumental band and having solid features on this album, I honestly see them going forward the same way as producers in hip hop do. With how often rappers and singers try new producers and feature on songs, I see them getting bigger and bigger features in the future. Lil West having a similar sound to Lil Nas X in Chimera, I can totally see artists taking note of that. And Tim is always talking about how he loves Drakes music, if poliphia play their cards right, it’s not hard to imagine that happening in the future honestly. It feels like this is the beginning for them to me.

  22. I agree with a lot of what you said…But 7.5 is crazy. There are not many people alive who can play what Polyphia is playing let alone compose it, and feature artists of multiple genres on the same album… Can you do better? Can anyone?
