Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are an Embarrassment of epic proportions. Not only are they suffering from massive technical problems, but a great vision under a rushed deadline. The games are extremely unpolished and bad by Pokemon standards and the open-world is a lifeless, empty husk. But what redeeming qualities do the games have?

  1. @12:17 I think the thing that makes paldea unique to other pokemon games is the way you can traverse a route to get to a destination. Like the area between Medali and Zappapico. If you wanna get to the ice gym from either of these towns, the game gives you a good amount of options. True, there are a shit ton of empty fields, but there are a good number of places in this region that feel thought out enough.

This isn't a defense of the games, we as fans deserve much better. just wanted to take you up on ur little offer.

  3. Yeah as much as I am having some fun playing the games I do agree with all these points. The graphical quality of textures really do remind me of N64 games and the general lack of polish and empty space looks extra silly when you think both Skyrim and the Witcher 3 have been optimised for this console. What is also super frustrating is the lack of patches. I've not played in a couple of days but as far as I know there's only been one patch since release and it didn't fix these issues. WTF are Game Freak doing, they should be working night and day on fixing all this stuff, but instead they are probably working on making buggy DLC instead.

  4. Weird how fan projects like Reborn, Rejuv, and Desolation are putting out S-tier pokemon games that completely wipe the floor with anything Gamefreak has ever produced. Then, when you confront the Scarlet and Violet gamefreak shills with this reality they say something like "OH. I don't play those types of games." No wonder Scarlet and Violet was the top selling Pokemon game of all time. The fan base are brain dead consumers.

  5. The fact that the highest grossing
franchise in the world would put this out.
I've been playing since the Red and Blue
days. I very much consider myself a die
hard Pokémon fan. Violet will likely be the
    last Pokémon game I purchase.
    GameFreak, or the Pokémon company
    (whoever is ultimately responsible for
this) have no respect whatsoever for the
people buying these games. Just gonna
    stick to emulating.

  6. While I have experienced 0 bugs/glitches and graphics mean absolutely nothing to me for Nintendo titles, the world is bland and uninteresting. I also miss the linearity of older Pokémon games even if the barriers didn’t make 100% sense.

Biggest thing for me though? I too have been playing since the Pokemon Red/Blue days and the first one I personally owned was Pokémon Silver. I was a kid back then. I’m nearly 30 now and in order for me to enjoy a Pokémon game, I have to endure being treated like a 10 year old kid cause you are a 10 year old kid in the game. I’d really like a mainline Pokémon game that lets you choose your age and/or have people recognize you. Recognize you as like the regional Champion. Cause the dialogue has mostly been, “you’re just a kid so you suck” followed by a battle where I OHKO all their Pokémon and they have the gall to say that they went easy on me…. Just come on, I’m basically a Pokémon master now…. Where’s the respect?!

  7. I cant fathom who Pokemon Stadiums, which was made 20 YEARS AGO have better battle animation then a game that is made today.
Why cant they just do the same thing, it wont take up much space on the cartridge.

  8. I don't defend these games. But I enjoyed em for a while. At least until I got to the elite four and it was like….why even bother?
But I disagree, the hardware has a lot to do with it.
The switch is clearly an inferior console to PS5 and had Gamefreak been working on that console instead I think we'd have a more competent product.
They're still clearly lazy….but they wouldn't be limited at least.

  9. Sad to see things turn out this way, it feels like many game dev's just put any passion into the games that they create anymore and as unfortunate as it may be what else can we do as a consumer but to not buy the garbage they sell us and just emulate the older games with a nuzlocke or some other hard mode or a randomizer to change the gameplay, I feel that is the only way I personally can get enjoyment out of the pokemon games anymore but that's just me. Its honestly a shame.

  10. Kinda funny how Pokemon Infinite Fusion has been like the funnest Pokemon game I've played since "XD" on GameCube…

    And it's free and fanmade

Also… Sunshine was such a good game lol

  11. A lot of your open world and level design arguments are literally the same as those of Breath of the Wild, which this game tries to copy. It lacked Zelda's dungeons, bosses, items, enemy variety etc in exchange for a largely empty open world (with many short diversions by way of shrine puzzles). It is simply an effect of open world without much forethought into it. Of course we haven't had good route designs or dungeons since the 2d Pokemon games anyway.

But this world is massive, and does have things to explore and find like the overworld terastal pokemon with different tera types than default. And plenty of small caves (though they are basically 1 room for the most part).

Rather than being bothered by the world itself, which I think is fine and has great item/pokemon density, I am missing side quests and unique npcs with actual dialogue. So while it has the most/best story of any pokemon game it has less to do if you are done with or between main story parts. Other than catching pokemon/shiny hunting there is nothing to do.

  12. I bought this game on release because I spend my free time shiny hunting. I’ll admit it’s a really weak reason and it only serves to give me that little hint of dopamine every time I see sparkles and a different Pokémon coloration. But even this game fucking failed at making shiny hunting enjoyable. In Arceus they added a unique little sound que that told you when you were near a shiny. They even had a nice sparkle animation to go along with it! But this game decided fuck that. Why add a useful feature? Now you have to run around like a fucking idiot waiting for the Pokémon to load in cause of this games shit performance. And I laughed so hard at the beginning when the rival called the world beautiful. Glad to know I wasn’t the only one. On top of this game being a shit show. Even it’s preorder bonus sucked donkey nuts. Nowadays, preorders are a great way to throw your money out the window on useless shit.

  13. I had more fight out of the Team Star raids. Everything else was too easy. Also, I don’t remember what the total number oh pokemon is but this game feels kinda empty to me . I want to like it more, just can’t.

  14. My brother was trying to make the point that it’s the hardware not the software and then I say but look at breath of the wild and he’s like “ThOsE gAmEs WeRe oLdEr” but doesn’t that mean that the graphics should look better and so as the fps I know nobody asked but this argument pissed me off

  15. You hit the nail perfectly. Game Freak has become lazy because they don't need to try. They could take a steaming dump and slap a pokemon sticker on it and pokemon fans would line up to buy it.

They milk pokemon fans and give them garbage in return. The same people they exploit would also defend their laziness to the death because pokemon is no longer a game to them. It's a cult. Any criticism or concerns are automatically shutdown because "fk you I love pokemon."

Honestly. I've given up on pokemon fans who would defend this crap. It's their money, they can keep taking it up their ass by Nintendo and Game Freak.
