PM asked about potential for random alcohol and drug testing in parliament

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says random alcohol and drug testing in parliament is not something he supports.

โ€œThere have been of course issues from time to time in the parliament,โ€ he said.

โ€œI donโ€™t want to see us be in a position where we say we are unable to act like adults.

โ€œItโ€™s not something that I have supported, I think that people need to act responsibly at all times, to bear in mind the great privilege and hour that we have of being in this chamber in the various positions that occur.

โ€œWhether they be on the frontbench of other side, whether it be backbench members or whether it be crossbench members as well.โ€

  1. Why is it that mandatory drug testing is acceptable for garbage collection workers and other government departments but not for federal parliament? What about unelected public service and political staffers. Absolute hypocrisy and double standard. Albanese is a joke

  4. It should be mandatory. Linda should be breath tested at least three times a day and any politician who is drunk or on cocaine should be immediately suspended or sacked depending on how drunk or high the entitled addicts are.

  5. Didn't answer the question as he is drunk all they do is give speeches of lies and change the subject instead of answer questions. They should rename it from Question time to BS time.

  6. I get tested for drugs regularly at work, for the privilege of taxes being taken from my pay and given to those on the dole who can do as they wish with my money.

  7. My Opinion – Drug and Alcohol testing in the parliamentary workplace – what a good idea! I worked in the mining industry for the last thirty years and for the last 4 – I had to blow in the alcoholizer every day I entered the workplace. When mandatory Drug and Alcohol was first introduced for the mining industry – the LNP were singing from the roof tops alluding that the scruffy unionised workforce would get their comeuppance and yes, some workers have been disciplined and dismissed for breach of these rules which is ZERO. Where any mining executives caught – yes – not at work but by the police on the open road – and over the limit. The higher they go the more entitled they think they are allowed to ignore the rules of the common employee!
