  1. I don’t understand some of the premises. It’s OK for an alien to invade and make war but it’s not OK to defend yourself, at least not if you’re good at it. Is the premise not to upset the status quo? No matter what, even at your own destruction? The Galactic councils goal is obviously not pacifism, because the other race was acceptable making war. Strange.

  2. I mean, what would the galactic council rather humanity had done? If you are asking humanity not to fight because of the risk that humans would be too powerful and would become aggressors to other species, then what is the council going to do about the other species currently attacking humans? Is the council going to step in and protect the humans in order to prevent humans from needing to fight back? Or are they just going to tell humanity, no, you can't fight back, just let yourselves be destroyed/conquered?

And what about the other species that started it? Are they just going to let them do whatever they want in the name of "peace"? Weren't other species on the council getting attacked by the same race? There is a point where being TOO much of a pacifist/peacemaker is just stupid and will only lead to your own extinction.

F all that. If you get attacked you have the right to defend yourself using whatever means necessary to secure your safety and the safety of those under your care as long as you aren't blowing up ants with a rocket launcher. Defend yourself, but use what is necessary, not overkill.

There is only one thing that has ever caused lasting peace throughout history and that is demonstrating not only the willingness but the ability to defend yourself if attacked and do so effectively. Anything else and someone will always step in to take what you have no matter what you have to offer in negotiations.

  3. Peace.. lol. They should ask the peace loving people of Europe in the 30s what they thought of peace as Hitler steamrolled over their militaries, occupied their nations, killed whoever they chose to, ask them what they think of peace.

  4. Just another set of cliches narrated by an AI voice that's as flat and dull as a concrete floor… My GPS puts more expression into its directions than this monotonal drone……👎

Edit: The "AI people" don't seem to realise that a good narration can make even a "so-so" story sound interesting, but a poor narration can destroy even the best work. When you have what appears to be an AI written story voiced by an elevator announcer, it has nothing going for it….. 😐

  5. I think the thing I find so disappointing about almost all these stories is that they're at heart just wishes disguised as longer strings of words stating the wish. There's almost no logic supporting the outcomes. Just wishes stated as facts.

  6. This sounds almost like the Citadel, and the role Commander Shepard played in helping to defend it in Mass Effect. Many resented humanity being given a seat in the council, as they were the youngest to be granted one. Many other civilizations had waited thousands of years, and still were not granted a seat. Terrans were not only given a seat, but they had earned it through their incredible ability to match and eventually conquer the Reapers.

  7. Excellent AI translation! One of the best I heard so far. The story?? 3 minutes in and MAJOR plot holes / transitions that make NO sense. Not wasting anymore time on this one.

  9. Not a bad story. I think you gave the humans too much credit for ingenuity. I would imagine any aliens we meet, like us, will be apex predators. Predators that had the brain power to drag themselves up from the depths of their food chain to the top, just like us. Heck that’s one of the theories as to why we haven’t met aliens. They were just like us and like we may at some point in the future, they destroyed themselves with war, technology to include disease manipulation of the strands of life etc. killings themselves off. Overall I give the story a 6/10. Thanks for posting it.

  10. This makes it sound as if the "Galactic Council" sees humans as nothing more than muzzled attack dogs and wants them to remain muzzled out of fear of them not just biting their enemies. Rather pathetic really.
