Game description (from Wikipedia):
Pikmin 4 is a real-time strategy video game developed by Nintendo EPD and published by Nintendo. It is the fourth main installment of the Pikmin series, following Pikmin 3 (2013), and the sixth installment overall. It was released on the Nintendo Switch on July 21, 2023.

The game is the first in the series to feature a customizable playable character. It introduces two new species of Pikmin called Ice Pikmin and Glow Pikmin, as well as new features like the Night Expeditions, in which players defend against waves of nocturnal enemies. In the story, the player assumes the role of a recently recruited member of the Rescue Corps, a group in need of rescuing following an unsuccessful attempt to save Captain Olimar.

Pikmin 4 received positive reviews from critics, who praised the game’s level design, visuals, score, amount of content, and accessibility to newcomers, while criticizing the limited multiplayer options and low difficulty.

  1. 8:20 thank you for pointing this out. This game's idea of a "side mission" involves just playing the game normally. There are only a small handful of quests I can recall that make you go out of your way to accomplish them

  2. I know this is recorded in advance but I can't believe Masae forgot about getting the Blue Onion in Sun Speckled Terrace and she is far from done there still. It's like there is no priority to what she thinks need to be done.

  3. We have never been out exploring the surface at night before. Historically, creatures have been more active at night time, hence why our journeys with the Pikmin only took place in the day. The better not to drop our numbers with. Speaking of numbers, feed Oatchi his Scrummy (delicious) bones. He's the best boy and has been working very hard.

  4. I believe the exchange rate for Glow Pikmin born to Glow Seeds earned afterwards are 1 Glow Seed for every 5 Pikmin that survive to the end of the night. So if you want to farm them for a rainy day, I suggest you prioritize collecting Glow Pellets over protecting the luminkoll when replaying missions you already cleared.

  5. Did you notice the music box early in the video? It was playing the Pikmin 3 title theme as the Pikmin were carrying it! Cute little detail, that, no?

Pikmin meets… tower defense? Sort of? It's quite the unexpected change in gameplay, but it works surprisingly well! If you thought Pikmin 4 has been a relatively relaxed experience, night expeditions will no doubt challenge that assessment. It's fun.🙂

  6. For future reference, despite the word trying to trick you, it's pronounced in some variation of "deh-grah-date-iv." Ain't English fun?

Also, yay! The night missions! I love them, and they're a well executed idea, and great for learning better dandori, because it forces you to learn to multi-task via switching between yourself and Oatchi

  7. Hi Masae, I personally thought it was funny when you said "get that out of your mouth." You do show a loud, but innocent type of humor.
I personally love Glow Pikmin and I do tend to go on the night expeditions a lot just to collect them and raise them in numbers.
I do think they're cute and I personally bought a Glow Pikmin plush.
I do honestly get annoyed whenever Yonny keeps saying new blood. It does feel darkly offending.

  8. Masae, you might wanna go grab that Blue Onion in area 2 before going to a new area. No clue what could be lurking there, but being able to farm Blues may prove vital down the line. Don't take my word for it, though. Yours is the only gameplay I've watched.

  9. Pro tip: Since the reds and yellows have onions in the beginning areas you can raise the numbers before you start. Considering what happened to all the reds it might be a good idea to start there before you start the next day. Also the make sure to buff the pup it makes things easier to carry the larger items till you can have 100 pikmin on the field.

  10. I’ve been looking forward to watching Masae deal with the night time missions. Those are gonna be a fun time. For us.

It’s been interesting seeing Masae do things at her own pace and in her own way. (Trying to not be frustrated she hasn’t collected the blue onion yet)

  11. The fact they're having the same recruit handle both day and night expeditions isn't good Dandori. If there was a new recruit to handle the night missions exclusively, they could get twice as much work done!

  12. For people asking about the Blue Onion, there's not much in this area that requires many blues so you can definitely complete this area before moving on.

I personally went to the next area before trying to 100% any of these first three areas and I ended up getting the Blue Onion there (Masae has already seen that there are multiple Yellow Onions so don't think this a big deal to say).

It's not really as big of a deal as some are making it out to be. Blues can be easily increased in numbers in either the first or next area just fine.

  13. 2:23 It's such a cute detail that this music box plays when you carry it!
11:36 Speaking of details, I love that there are variants of the music for night expeditions!
16:20 Certainly is basically tower defense, didn't expect it when they announced night expeditions for the first time (they mentioned it in the second trailer that talked about them) and because of that combined with the night setting it really reminds me of protecting the cows from Them in Majora's Mask.
19:27 Notice how the countdown stopped before reaching zero? That's because if you defeat all the creatures in the area the night expedition is instantly concluded.

  14. I like the night missions, but I do wish there was a bit more to them. It's not so much that they're too easy, but I just wish there was more strategy involved. Although, I have been considering doing an Oatchi only run where I avoid using pikmin and that might make things a bit spicier lol.
