Philippines Restore Former U.S. Naval Air Station to Counter China China in West Philippine Sea

The Armed Forces of the Philippines will Restore the Former U.S. Naval Air Station in Subic Bay to effectively Counter Chinaโ€™s Military bases in South China Sea

The Philippine Government, aim to Restore Subic Bay Airfield to be used specifically for maritime operations. As part of Manilaโ€™s defensive posture against Chinaโ€™s aggressive actions, in its sovereign waters in West Philippines Sea. The new Philippine Air Force forward operating base, is set to host the services for maritime patrol assets. fighter jets. Missile storage, and a large hangar, that can support the service on upcoming surveillance aircraft.
The Philippines is looking to create a new base, on the site of a former American naval air station at Subic Bay, to increase its aerial surveillance and power projection capabilities in the South China Sea.
A new forward operating base that can support reconnaissance and attack aircraft, will be established at Subic Bay International Airport, according to Philippine Air Force bidding documents and development plans. While plans to fully develop the former American naval base were announced almost a decade ago, it was only this year that the service invited companies to bid for the project.
Amidst the tensions generated by Chinaโ€™s development of artificial islands in the South China Sea, the Armed Forces of the Philippinesโ€™ AFP, plan to rehabilitate the air and naval facilities in Subic Bay Freeport, in the central part of the mainland island of Lozon. The Subic Bay, a deep-water harbor located fifty miles northwest of Manila facing the South China Sea, was the service and logistic center for the U.S. Seventh Fleet until November 1992.
Accordingly, this move will enable the AFP to quickly deploy its fighter planes and frigates to any contingency in the South China Sea, in the face of Chinaโ€™s maritime expansion in these disputed waters.
Previously the site of the U.S. Naval Air Station in Cubi Point, in Subic Bay International Airport was established, following the broader American military withdrawal from the Philippines in the 1990s. Since then, both Philippine and American military forces have been returning to the area to facilitate resupply, refuel and repair vessels. Subicโ€™s port facilities also support the delivery of U.S. military equipment into the Philippines during bilateral exercises.
Amid increased tensions with China over territorial disputes and a realization of its lackluster defense capabilities, Manila has committed to the re-establishment of military infrastructure at Subic Bay. With its strategic location adjacent to the South China Sea, particularly in Scarborough Shoal, the Philippines established the Subic Naval Operating Base in 2022.
This 100-hectare section of the former Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction shipyard, now owned by American firm Cerberus, became the Philippine Navyโ€™s most important base. Since its founding, the base has been the only one in the Philippines that can support the services of US militaries largest vessels.
Across the bay at Subic Bay International Airport, a similar story unfolded as the Philippines examined what facilities could be useful in their new military plans. Philippine Air Force documents on the project directly cited the proximity of the airfield to Scarborough Shoal and the South China Sea as the reason for the construction of the forward operating base.

  1. First of all, what can Filipino lawmakers do to stop this Chinese misbehavior in WPS? All these Filipino lawmakers can least do that to slam or condemn by words the recent and past Chinese violations in the West Philippine Sea, thats all they can do! They kept on complaining, shouting at their session, but never came up with a robust decision.

Instead of getting serious and united to vote and spend billions of dollars in appropriating defense budget money for the armed forces of the Philippines ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ.

What more important for these poticians and BBM is by tangible and major policy shift change to put back those stolen money (through corruption) by these politicians to put it back in the jar of Philippine defense budget for spending and purchasing vital military equipment to modernize the Philippine Armed Forces, especially the navy department.

The stupidity and lack of concerns for decades and decades are now hunting the core of every Fililipinos and the leadership of the government and the military branch.

The inability of the Phillipine Coast Guard to rightly respond due to lack of resources (like modern patrol boats, fast attack boats, cutters, large coast guard ships, and helicopters) are the reasons that China advances in their illegal occupations of our islands and expansionism mentality.

In short, it was the corrupt Philippine politicians that made their armed forces look stupid and idiot in every time they're dealing with the Chinese in the WPS. And for decades and decades, it's been like that!

Such a shame also, that, even the Philippine Navy has not enough resources as well to help and support they're naval brothers in the coast guard to assist them in dealing with the problematic Chineae troops in the West Philippine Sea.

It is such a headache most of all to the Philippine President Bong Bong Marcos, Defense secretary, and military generals and officers what kind of approached they will do in order to reaponse to the recent incident in the WPS.

If this administration and the whole Philippine Congress will not focus more on the national defense of the country, they are doomed to fail for sure in defending the sovereign territories of the Philippines ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ. They are the sole responsible people to blame for the sufferings of the Filipino troops (coast guards and navy), and might as well, the Filipino people.

It is such a big shame as well to think that the armed forces do not have any very good ideas to counter the threat of China in the WPS with regards to defending our EEZ and territories.

And why is that? Its because, mainly, they do not have the resources of modern military equipment to use, they are short handed, but rather the BBM government is focused more on that stupid immoral POGO issues that even the Philippine Senate themselves are confuse on how to deal with a fake Chinese nationals. That belongs to a Chinese syndicate manipulating everyone from local to the upper branches of the government.

Now, everybody is feeling the heat, including BBM, Defense Minister, and lawmakers on how to deal with China ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ and in defending the country's national security. What a shame!

Watch how the nation of Indonesia ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ does their best job to guard their sovereign territory from the idiot Chinese coast guard.

Indonesia ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ will not back down on this. They are not faze by the Chinese, and they are willing to fight and die for their sovereign territory. Our salute to the nation of Indonesia ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ especially the coast guard, navy, and airforce.

  2. I think, the restoration of the former Subic Naval.Base is a wise idea and a very important move not only on the part of the Philippine government deciding to go with this plan, but also for the whole International Community, which may consider the issue of the vast martime lane of the China Sea as indispensable to keeping and maintaining a free global commercial shipping route or a viable maritime highway for any country to innocently pass and use without worry. At a glance, the Philippines may be absorbing a whacking out of the inordinate greed of China in its attempt to "terrorize" a small country, like the Philippines, into retreating or giving up anything on and under its poorly secured territorial and maritime zone and borders in the WPS. The fact, however, is that China only uses the name WPS as a disguising mask or pretense of its real evil intentions to engulf the WHOLE expanse of the China Sea under its ( preposterous dashed-claim ), which area indeed the whole World has the right to use and enjoy as one inalienable part of God's creations, which is intended to be owned by "no one State" – that is, the open sea being called the CHINA SEA – for purposes of convenience only, but not to define a sense of territorial belongingness. China would not often directly expose the intentions it has over the SC Sea itself, because it will surely pique or provoke bad international reactions, but rather just cleverly utilizes "WPS" as focal reference to minimize impact upon the issue and rein in focus , as horse blinkers are used, to keep the World from noticing the insidious tactics China is employing in secretly trying to seize the expansive Sea stealthly but gradually, until perhaps it could finally be able to wall off or loop in the entire SCS to the access of any one country to the use its free navigational right, or it just outrighly restricts or bans the free use of the whole stretch of South China Sea for international navigational purposes. So then, every state would therefore be forced to secure first GATEPASS es from BEIJING to navigate through it. To all the free States of the WORLD: if you considered this thing as sounding like a real alarm and you thought it would be importantly right for all concerned to preserve what is supposed to be collective owned, then you have to do your share to keeping international rights of passage through open seas pritected and uphold it as a matter of permanent right for all – enlist your support to a common call or cause to stop the on-going insanity by one country trying to redefine or close an OPEN SEA for some incomprehensible ends and be part of the common cause to secure it free of any intolerable impediment or from "crazy" rule or control by any troublesome country. The Philippines is willing (or has other choice but) to cooperate with whatever thing or sacrifice it can stake or possibly give or do with the World for the sake of preserving the FREEDOM OF NAVIGATION in that part of the Asian region, which would somehow help the Philippines in driving off or expelling away the insane, but forminable "terrorists" who are trying to grab our land possessions in our territory. For this, it is also hoped upon the rest of affected Asian neighborhood that they join hands in repelling this threat for the sake of securing regional peace and common good.
