Philippines Confronts China’s ‘Monster’ in South China Sea | Vantage with Palki Sharma
The Philippines has accused a massive Chinese coast guard vessel, dubbed the “Monster,” of illegally entering its exclusive economic zone in the South China Sea. The 12,000-ton vessel, armed and capable of extended missions, was spotted near Capones Island in Zambales. Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Jay Tarriela stated that the BRP Cabra has been tailing the vessel, challenging its actions as a violation of Philippine sovereignty. This development adds to the ongoing tension between Beijing and Manila over control of the resource-rich South China Sea, with China asserting its dominance through large-scale drills and increased patrols.
