As for me I can only give my own memory and opinion as always..this is how I’ve always remembered the song, for me he’s always sang it by saying it both ways. Not a change for me but as always I love the research and content and always here to follow and support you my dear friend 👍
Dam ,, this one is flipin around, messed up, good to find him singing all odds. Do me a favor and re visit hotel California please. the line " Mirrors on the ceiling , _ pink champagne on ice" . I remember " and" but its different now. Also did you know that the mamas and the papas M.E. song " California Dreamin" there is an explanation from the band members that the lyric was orig. " Began to pray instead of pretend " but they were singing both unknowingly then changed it. this info was NOT there when I investigated it previously. oh yea..and Mackenzie Phillips ( daughter of John Phillips from mamas and papas and starred on the 70s show One Day at A Time" didnt die of an overdose in this reality , shes alive and had sex with her dad that became a huge scandal… wtf?

Great catch! I don't remember the song exactly, but against THE odds, doesn't make sense, if the song is called Against ALL odds. When I googled searched the lyrics, the first lyrics that popped up still has "ALL" in both places of the song
Pretending to miss the rains is against the odds
It is weird because against ALL odds and against THE odds are 2 very different things
