'Phased approach' developed to ensure Australian sailors can operate nuclear sub fleet

US President Joe Biden says AUKUS has developed a “phased approach” that’s going to make sure Australian sailors are fully trained and prepared to operate the nuclear submarine fleet.

“We’re starting right away,” President Biden said.

“Beginning this year, Australian personnel will embed with US and UK crews on boats and at bases in our schools and our shipyards.

“We’ll also begin to increase our port visits to Australia – in fact … the nuclear-powered sub, USS Asheville, is making a port call in Perth.”

  1. Every project australia has started has gone over time and over budget so unless you are under 30 years old I doubt you will ever see these subs and all the heads of all the coutries involved including china will be long dead before any sub hits the water

  2. Yeah let’s advertise to the world what we have, and better yet let’s advertise to the world the time frame of when these will be ready. Australia is like a person you wouldn’t want to rob a bank with. 🤦‍♀️

  3. Am I the only person who thinks this is all just a gigantic wank, a total waste of taxpayer money. Australia is already broke, a 1 Trillion dollar debt. It will be DECADES into the future before we have eight submarines, to defend against what?
Is someone seriously suggesting China will invade Australia and start WW3, in the process totally destroy its own economy. It's economic might is because it is the 'factory to the world'.
Employment, are we proposing to be a long term competitive force in producing submarines? Ludicrous idea. If the government wants to invest in job and skills creation, at least do it on something likely to exist in 100 years time.
NOTHING related to these submarines makes any sense to me, nothing!
