The eldery couple are my favorites! They are so kind and loving and the atmosphere around them is always so wholesome! It's like they are your grandfather and grandmother 😊❤
The Old Couple are definitely one of my favorite social links. Its still early on for both myself playing and your playthrough, but so far they are my favorite in terms of whom I'm most interested in as characters and their story.

Although they are kinda one-note i love the old couple. Elderly characters in Persona have a way of stealing my heart
Also i agree about the male party members. Their story is told in the actual main story and the hangouts are a nice bonus

The young man at the shrine is one of the best social links of all time.
Having played all the persona games, yes, in my humble opinion this game has the best social link in the entire series. And you will know EXACTLY which one it is once you start it.
Was kinda hoping he realized "oh wait summer vaca? Maybe i should focus on school social links" cause this is p4 summer and not p5 thus majority of SLs are locked and ges focusing one of the few doable during summer early on. I do the old couple up to 3 to unlock bebe then ignore them til the summer.

Even if Maruki isn't topped, he is still going to be blown away by this character.
I dare say Persona 3 has some of the best social links.
The old couple & the ones at the shrine are some of my personal favorites. Plus two that happens a bit later on.
Also Edogawa is awesome, don't believe anyone who says otherwise! 😆
The dead MMO talk brought back so many memories. I was a Club Penguin/Webkinz/Habbo Hotel type of person. Honorable mention to that one MMO on Miniclip that idk the name of.

P3 has some of the best and some of the worst Social Links in the series. But overall I think they're really strong, the couple of garbage ones don't outweight the ones that are at least good.
As a whole package I think P5 has the weakest Social Links. Not that the characters are bad, the structure of the confidants just makes a couple of them really drag and you don't feel like you get to know the person all that well. Feels like it takes the whole Confidant to work on an issue that could have been solved in 5 ranks or so.
Yeah, while I like having social links with your team, it just feels so… bad for them in a way. "Hey MC, I kinda need you to notice me in order to get my character development and grow as an individual."
Having that tied to the main story instead makes it feel way more natural and independent.
So an interesting note about the elderly couple, and persona in general I guess, is that there's something that ties all of the Hierophant social links together. Every single one has had someone important to them die from a car accident. The couple with their son, Dojima with his wife, and Sojiro with Wakaba.
Bunkichi’s VA is the same as King Bumi from Avatar.
Loved your discussion on MMOs and speaking of been watching your FFXIV Endwalker playthrough on your Vods channel. I do love Maya's character though brings me back to those days when I use to chat in AIM & ICQ with the lingo she was typing. Totally makes us feel old, Caleb! 😂
In terms of MMOs, I only ever played FFXI, but I practically made it my job for the better part of a year, until I finally gave away everything I had of value so I wouldn’t be tempted to come back.
Speaking of dead mmo. Funny enough, it was "Shin Megami Tensei IMAGINE". Man.. that was great game..
Yeah the problem with party social links in 4 and 5 is nothing in them can be important enough to effect the main story and inversely the story can't have the characters have a huge amount of character development so they don't act out of character if you start one later in the game
I saw somebody in a Twitch chat I was looking at earlier mention that Bunkichi and MItsuko probably got so quickly drawn to the protagonist because in the East it's typical for your children to look after you in your older days, whereas they don't have that.
Also people do still use ASL. I won't get into the specifics of how I know that, but its still a thing.
Idk if anyone mentioned this but here's a fun fact: In the Maya social link, while the names of the players and game are references to Persona 2, Maya's design in the portrait and on the screen are actually based off of the SMT I heroine.
Honestly the fact that the game actively notifies you on social links and such is huge
I love the "Oh no he is going fter a teacher" to "Wait a minute Kawakami"
You know I'm actually really happy that my first time (my own canon playthrough) was Persona 3 Portable because that was really the only one with the girl protagonist and the male social links. It being the first means I remember it more easily having only played through that version once (and a half xD) but literally every other version is just like the one you're playing. Although she was in the live musical production of P3 in Japan they like alternated her and Espresso-kun for every performance so I guess we have that xD.
I once cosplayed her as well, she's my favorite protagonist and I do miss her.

Just FYI, more social links will unlock as you progress your existing ones to levels 3 and beyond. So always take the time to rank up your existing ones if you get the message that you might soon become closer. The ones you unlock later might also have skill level checks too, so be aware of that.
