  1. This was an interesting video. The homm part got me thinking of the fan made content and maybe you covering them. Also maybe there is some potential in the Disciples series?

  2. I like Civvie11 3 point description of slavjank (though he mostly refers to shooters)
    1.Low budget, weird technical issues
2.Laughably overambitious (either in story or tech)
3.Philosophical waxing (the more impenetrable the better)

    4. Oh my God! it's a BABY. A HUMAN BABY!!!
    P.S.
Will you voice audiobook version of your work? I find your voice quite pleasant to listen to while doing something else.

  3. it always confuses me… We translate these eastern European names from a Cyrillic alphabet to a latin one. Why then, WHY do we spell "harkiv" as Kharkiv? There's no ka sound at the start of the name? Why the heck is that done?!?!?>

  4. Heroes III is honestly as close to a perfect game as I can think of.

Straightforward, easy to get into, yet immensely deep. Clean, responsive and satisfying gameplay. Flawlessly executed visual design, in that they absolutely nailed the realistic art style without coming across as odd or uncanny whatsoever. Furthermore, who could forget the soundtrack. My. Goodness. Undoubtedly one of the best video game soundtracks to date.

It truly is a masterpiece and I'm glad to have grown up with such a timeless gem.

  5. You provide many, many fascinating windows into the slavic gaming world that I would otherwise be entirely ignorant of. There is a series of books called "The Untold History of Japanese Game Developers" . Your videos carry that same energy of bringing to light the histories and stories of these games and developers. Thank you so, so much for this channel.

  6. I am intensely interested in seeing the book about this come to life. I kinda thought this video would be a broader history about Slavjank in general (not just strategy-cum-RPG games like Heroes, but also the many weird and busted FPS games from the East), but I loved this journey nonetheless and I would like to see more.

Didn't they technically already exist in HOMM2? Dungeon's mage class is called "Warlock", which is the name of one of the HOMM2 castles. Besides, they share a few units like black dragons and minotaurs

  8. It's awesome to hear these stories, especially when they relate to games, or at least genres of games I so greatly enjoy. Slavjank, may be jank, but it's often got more character to it than most modern games, one of the big reasons I enjoy your content as a whole.
I'll take S.T.A.L.K.E.R. over COD any day of the week.

  9. It's been so many years since then, only now I know that there was a name for all those obscure HoMM-like games my friend was playing an unhealthy amount of time. Slavjank. Name is just as obscure as those games. Probably given by someone non Slavic, as games like s.t.a.l.k.e.r., are only weird if translated to different languages to people who don't fully understand a lot of cultural context.

Those eador and heroes of annihilated empires actually don't look bad at all. Maybe I'll even try them sometime.

  10. I'd love to see a video exploring the convergent development of Germanic & Slav games. Hearing them want to mix RTS & RPG with Heroes of Annihilated Empires reminds me very strongly of the Spellforce series. Seems a lot of genres or design ideas that fell out of favour in most of western europe & the US were still loved and developed by the German/Austrians & Slavs independently of one another (to this day even), just with slightly more dodgy dealing & jank on the Slav side..

  11. Damn. I'm familiar with Eador. Not the original, but the Masters of the Broken world remake. 100s of hours. I enjoyed. Keep meaning to try the original. But I haven't found the time.

Still haven't finished the remakes campaign.
