I think I am going to skip This game then.
In an MMO, cosmetics should be the most sought after gameplay incentive. A reward for accomplishing difficult or time consuming tasks. A mark of in-game prestige, not of personal wealth. That's how you get people to spend hundreds of hours playing your game. MTX, be they EXP boosters, powerful gear, or cosmetics inherently cheapen the gameplay experience.
What these devs and executives should do, and I think this would work relatively well for a free to play experience, is sell content as a microtransaction. Expansion packs, essentially, but smaller and cheaper. Release the base game as a complete experience. Let people accomplish all there is to accomplish in that base experience for free, and then release content on a paid basis. Release a new dungeon, or boss, or raid? Throw a couple bucks in the pot to unlock it, and then play the game to obtain the rewards. Release a whole new large area full of quests and story? That's an expansion, charge a little more. Its okay to charge people money over time for an evolving experience, but the current model of free to play games puts that money-over-time burden primarily upon a few easily exploited whales when it could be spread more consistently over the entire player base.
Not only is that a morally superior model, but it should also be more financially consistent for a longer period of time.
I think the video game industry, and the MMO industry to an even greater extent, has been poisoned by the modern expectation that executives and shareholders have of fast short term returns on investment rather than the more traditional and fiscally responsible idea of slow, consistent returns. You know, the way that actually makes a company or individual money that lasts.
I hope they listen to feedback and take the backlash seriously, pay to win ruins the game experience completely. In the end how much say does the studio have in this decision? Amazon wants to milk it surely. Here is hoping..
I love leveling and exploring in MMO’s. Sometimes, especially games like FFXIV, I may buy a level boost for a job class to try something new without re-grinding. I’m a scumbag haha. But I genuinely have more memories of my time with WoW leveling, exploring and meeting new people than running endgame dungeons.
Greed is all it is why can't we just buy the game and then if there are major add ons buy them like it used to be.
Gw2 level capped areas if you xo boost it has no advantage or disadvantage
Is there one mmo without XP-boosters? Really man.. People are complaining in the internet but are still willing to buy and play the Game. They pay it anyway… I will never understand.
WoW gets away with that shit because they already have a dedicated playerbase trying to relive the glory days. New World doesn't have glory days to relive yet, so putting in this shop? Horrible idea.
This seriously blows. I was genuinely excited for New World but forgot about it because I didn't think I'd ever actually invest in a gaming PC.
Now I actually am and I'm reminded of this wonderful game with news so wretched it completely ruins any excitement I would have had.
This is a really bad route for them to go, and I'm sure they see that as justified because they'll probably make you still have to grind out the xp but just get a multiplier tacked onto it through boosters – as is becoming standard in so many games now – but this isn't and has never been a fun or beneficial mechanic.
I'm glad this is just the testing stage so there is a chance for them to backpedal, but I'm pretty sure this game is being brought to us by Amazon so forgive me if I don't have a lot of faith in those odds.
I really hope they smarten up though because this game looked awesome.
Grinding can be good in some ways, but this pay to play stuff are for those that don't have the time to grind. I can see why people take advantage of this, BUT the solution should then be that the developers make it fairly expensive to actually get that advantage. That is fair imho where I will pay certain amount to get ahead to not grind myself to death when my time to play games are to short.
That's why I like CIG and what they are doing with their game Starcitizen where there is no level, but ofc a lot of gear, ships and veichles to be bought. That said it doesn't make you a good trader, fps player, flying ships etc. The pay to play is less a problem where leveling isn't a thing. That's why I love the Witcher 3 mod that makes everything have a lvl from the get go, where armor and weapons are more important than grinding for leveling up. I think imho lvl is on the way out and developers needs to think in other terms where they need to engage players with more content than playing the same shit on endless repeat.
This doesn’t bother me as much. It will be rough for the first 1-3 months of it coming out. WoW has similar things, guild wars does, osrs has bonds which you can sell for gold, Albion you can directly buy gold which translates to silver. BDO is terrible at it. I personally hate the leveling experience and like to play the economy in games being in the top .001% of the richest. If I can pay to pass this as quickly as possible and work on economy via in game I am extremely happy. This would only be a problem if max levels can come down and kill low levels free of any consequence. If that is the case then it’s a problem. You can have a good level curve and then still speed up the leveling process by just making it even faster. Big difference between making it feel terrible and an actual quality of life upgrade.
Im honestly trying to give them 1 chance.
I'll try out the game in July and if they still have this idea I will refund.
I won't refund right now because the backlash is so huge that I don't think they will continue.. but if they come with vague shitty ass answers BYE BYE!
Unfortunately stuff like that popping up in more and more games these days
they have already ruined the game with fast travel points in a open world game and the p2w cash shop just completes it
I am enraged by ALL microtransactions, whether it is pay to win or not, it maters not to me. It is all garbage. I am not talking about legitimate DLC, real added content. For that matter, I would rather they chock them up full of pay 2 win microtransactions, because then maybe people wil finally vote with their wllets and get actual pushback where it hurts, SALES.
Selling cosmetics is only fine in free to play games by the way, imo. Nowhere else, never ever.
I've seen this kind of crap in Lineage 2 morpg. All the loser idiots that spend the most cash to win, all gather together and find each other and all joint he same clans. This is trash.
I love geting xp, findnig drops, loot, then checking my SP and seing when I get a new SKIL, or an important skill upgrade./ BUying a game with xp and leveling and paying to skip it is stupid.
I played Lineage 2 MORPG for 10 years, it was alot of fun because of hte people, but the game is trash, especialy end game. I wil never play an MMO again just becuase of the time sync. I missed out on so many other games during this time. Some days 10 hours a day.
I detest micro transactions like those in most games (games like Warframe etc are an exception). As a result I don't play games with those as options. Weirdly I once considered making a game where everything was bought with real money. Want ammo? Sure it will cost ya. Want clothes? Same. Make so obscene and obvious that no-one in their right mind would even consider playing it. I didn't go ahead with it as there would be someone or some people who would play and pay, as the point of it was to raise a massive red flag on the evils of micro transactions.
A real shame, was hyped for this game, now I have cancelled my pre-order.
They missed a trick really, instead of a crappy cash shop that no one wants (especially on a pay-2-play game) they should have made it subscription, and added the subscription as a perk to Amazon Prime.
We want answers what is quality of life items ? WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN BY THAT AMAZON ?
