When a new, deadly virus spreads across North America at an alarming rate, one man is singled out for bringing the disease to the continent.
Spanning the 1970s until today, the story of Gaetan Dugas –aka ‘Patient Zero’ –serves as the perfect microcosm of the evolution of AIDS in America and the country’s response to it.
In the early 1980s, little was known about this global epidemic, except that it seemed to be most prevalent amongst gay men. America was in the grip of fear and uncertainty and, in the scramble for answers, Dugas would become known and vilified as ‘Patient Zero’.
Exploring timely themes about fear, the demonizing of the unknown, and the danger of false narratives, this FadooProductions and Fine Point Films documentary weaves social history and scientific investigation into a poignant story of an individual who became intrinsically and tragically linked with AIDS.

Thank God for these brilliant people who applied their collective will to solving the AIDS puzzle. It's a shame that most Americans can name a hundred movie stars and musicians but couldn't name one of these scientific rock stars to save their life – and I am including myself.
Crazy how slow the professionals were to develop their understanding of HIV as opposed to COVID. The US government addressed COVID straight away. Sad.

My mother worked in the office assigning nurses for out patient care for AIDS patients in ‘84 to ‘86 then becoming a home health aide then a nurse to patients. She became friends with quite a few and would visit them at home after her shift to check up on them. I was in middle school and she would bring me with her so I made friends with their kids, grandkids and other family members. All of them are gone now but they have all stayed in my thoughts and close to my heart. I didn’t realize it then but my mom was pretty amazing.
I lost a dear friend in 1986 from AIDS. Rest in loving peace Kenneth
really great documentary it just brakes my heart how ppl treat others because of there sexual preference its so sad and how the 1st men were treated that had aids was just terrible !!! man i wish it could have been handled so much better !!!

I personally feel anger. Please 🇺🇸 let 🙏 us pray. My heart ❤ feels like 👍 it is being ripped out of my chest. My 👪 family member is who I haven't heard from and that just adds to such despair for our family. I know that Christ has all the answers and knows what is best for 🇺🇸 us all, however as a human being with feelings nightmares seems to be my present 🎁 problematic situation.

This is an enlightening video I feel the pain and hurt and some of these people looked and sounded like they were reliving some of the horrid moments just talking about it…. No matter what PEOPLE are or what they become they are still human beings and need to be treated as so GOD forbid some of these people who missed out on love and compassion and understanding because people ARE SCARED OF WHAT THEY DONT KNOW ABOUT OR WHAT THEY DONT UNDERSTAND so what people do is HATE instead of HEAL with love this terrible disease …… I think the gentleman being spoke about was very wreckless with OTHER PEOPLES lives but nothing can change what has happened just be smart and actually CARE HOW you effect other people's lives negatively and positively……….

Lady I voted for that man in 2016 and I'd vote for him again. Yet, I still, as a straight 49 yo whose been married for 27 years and is a father, can watch this film an feel empathy for what these people lived through, and in many cases still live with. Bringing politics into this is so not necessary!
I remember when it was called GRID.We had a notice on the fridge in the nurses station
telling us that there was a new disease out
that only struck homosexual men..GRID..I was needle stuck while taking blood( he had
a seizure)Never caught the disease.So many people gone….It was a nightmare 😥

This is a real pandemic and it isn't over. I miss all of the friends I've lost due to this in the 80s, 90s, 00s and even last March. That propaganda banner on this video is an example of the stupidity that lead me to join ACT UP in the early 90s.
In 2022, I type alone after viewing this well constructed narrative-in-memoriam to say thank you to the creators and participants.

I do NOT at all feel sorry for this Gaetan Dugas guy. I do however feel for those he infected. My godfather died of Aids in the early 90s and I remember visiting him in the hospital in San Francisco and how he looked and how he felt so alone. I will never forget him and will always love him. RIP.

I was barely a teenager when the Aids crisis was spreading. I remember watching afternoon cartoons when Daniel Jones was intent on protesting HMOs and was going to commit suicide on the 110. I couldn't help but feel his loneliness and desperation he musta felt. Watching him Molotov cocktail hisself and his doggo. Which he got out the truck and grabbed his shotgun out the back. His dog perished in the flames and watching him yell at people for them to listen. Then he put the butt of the gun on the highway put his mouth over the barrell and did the unthinkable on live TV.
