Patch, Prime & Paint Small Crack in Plaster Wall

In this Painting video, I show you how to fix a small crack in a Plaster Wall.
I first gouge out the crack and make it wider, then pack it full with a Plaster of Paris mud pie (Plaster of Paris and USG All Purpose Joint Compound). I then tape the Plaster crack with Fiba Fuse tape, and apply a few coats of joint compound. I bring the joint compound out further on each coat to recreate a smooth surface. I also use a Purdy Symphony Rounded Finishing Trowel to float out the mud.
I use a Hyde drywall Hawk and taping knife or trowel, to apply the Quick -Set mud. Drywall & Plaster repair tips

I noticed that there is a texture while the primer and top coats are still wet. Apparently no need to spray Homex???

Is there a reason why you don't use hot mud and mix your own?
What grit sandpaper are you using after the 2 primer coats? Some videos you didn't sand after primer. Just done for smooth walls? Thank you
