  1. Something has to be done with kickoff. First off, it is 99% of the time boring. Touchback after touchback, after touchback.

Then, if there is a return, there usually a penalty that negates it. Not to mention the full speed contact.

The XFL kickoff was alot of fun to watch. Never felt like it was a given result.

  2. If you want to reduce injuries, lessen the pads and remove helmets. Guys can’t use their bodies as a human missile anymore. Rugby has no helmet or pads and they have far less injuries, especially concussions.

  3. pat hit it on the head, people are taking a leak or getting a drink and no one’s watching the kickoff or the commercials that go with it. That’s what’s motivated this from the nfl. A team scores then commercial, kickoff then commercial, then play commences. Do they want it to be exciting? Sure. Do they want to keep raking in money and keep sponsors happy? #1 priority

  4. sounds like it will ruin the game.. touchback at the 35? start at the 40 if you don't hit the landing zone? That is bogus..No surprise onside kick? That itself ruins the game.

  5. This seems like a ton more work than the proposal from a few years ago to just turn the kick off into a punt play with some kind of analysis to figure out how long the "4th and X" option would need to be to make it equivalent to an onside kick.

  6. We all know it's a scripted sport now, so why not just kick the ball, and where it lands on the field is where the other team starts. No run backs, no one gets hurt, problem solved. Put flags on their waist and just call it NFFL.
