Ariya Paige was 10 months old when her babysitter, Rhonda Jewell, left her in a hot a car for five hours in July 2023. A judge in Baker County, Florida recently sentenced Jewell to 17 years in prison after a jury found her guilty of third-degree murder for Ariya’s death. Ariya’s parents spoke about the pain of losing their baby girl as Jewell’s family pleaded for leniency. Law&Crime’s Angenette Levy has the emotional sentencing hearing in this episode of Crime Fix — a daily show covering the biggest stories in crime.

I would never trust ANYONE with my baby. Not even family for the first year. Call me crazy but I don't care.
I wouldn’t trust anyone with my baby for more than a couple of hours & they wouldn’t be driving with them.
A careless accident, probation and community service at most
5 hours with no check in from parents? We need more preventions in place
More importantly, what was she doing with him?
How do you forget a baby period. !! That’s why I stayed home with my kids hard to trust anyone.
The babysitter clearly seems remorseful. It was a terrible mistake and unfortunately it's mostly parents themselves have done this. There must be an added safety feature added to cars to detect and set off alarms if an infant or toddler is left in a hot car.
America needs a child daycare system that’s affordable and have the right people. Otherwise, parents risk having their children killed by unqualified people.
So many children killed by adults leaving them alone in cars; beautiful lives cut short by cruel negligence. I can't imagine how her parents are still holding themselves together, but I hope seeing some justice gives them a kind of peace. And I hope Ariya rests in peace.
She wasn’t even crying. No red face and no tears. What a gross woman
Under the prison for her.
every time i come across this case , a piece of my heart breaks off
Reading off an apology feels so distant.
My Mamma heart is broken 😭
Prayers for this precious baby girl's Family. Such a beautiful perfect little girl. I am so sorry this happened
What a cutie pie 💜😢 RIP 🕊
negligence act guilty. You can’t just baby sitt children and forget your baby sitting, any children in your care should be taken care like your own even. 5 hours in a hot car really! This is sad and what a beautiful baby she was.
How on earth do people forget they have a child/baby in their car?
This poor little darling. Her mums testimony was heartbreaking. ❤️ & 🙏 from the UK 🇬🇧
Wow, those family statements were tone deaf, yikes
Very sad story this beautiful little girl didn't deserve this rip
My prayers goes out too the parents can't trust nobody with your children
This happens way too often. I just can't believe it's ever an accident. How do you forget you have a child?!
Such a beautiful baby girl 😢
So tragic
That’s exactly why I stayed home with my kids. One event woke me up.
They say 17 but 7 years will be agreed on an appeal if not less as they have to throw the book to set an example but justin ross was given life no parole to walking the streets on appeal
She probably realized who it was, looked for the kid, remembered the child was left in the car, asked what door she was at, hoping it was not the front door so she could run out and get the child in the house.
The title of this made me think they killed the babysitter. I thought it meant "parents R.I.P. babysitter…"
That is NOT how you give CPR to an infant. The MIL needs to redo her CPR training.
That poor little beautiful baby girl. My heart goes out to the family. That woman did that on purpose
No remorse at all. She deserves to be in jail
“Hot car awareness month “ only in America
This is why I never left my baby with anyone at that age…
This poor mama. I pray for her and her partner as well as all those touched by Ariya’s light.
Test her for drugs 5 hours is crazy and definitely family only I don’t believe in battysitters at allllll or alternative shifts ppl gotta talk with there bosses and work something out no blaming anyone just saying this whole situation is preventable
Horrific. I don't know how the parents have carried on. Then, to go through a trial.
If you’re taking a child’s life, you deserve life or death. Nothing less.
17yrs? She stole that baby entire future with her incompetence.
As horrible as this story is, I truly dont believe the babysitter did it on purpose. It was a terrible accident and my heart goes out to everyone.
Was this an accident?
