Panama protesters shot dead by driver after blocking road

Two environmentalists blocking a road in Panama during a protest about mining rights have been killed after an elderly driver attempting to get past the demonstration left his car and shot them at close range.

The shooting happened on a section of the Pan-American Highway, in the Chame district, about 55 miles west of the capital, Panama City.

In a video captured by news photographers who were covering the protest, the suspect, identified on local media as a 77-year-old man with joint Panamanian and American nationality, can apparently be seen walking towards the group of demonstrators and appearing to ask them to move.

  1. Well. It’s not like we didn’t know this was going to happen at some point. The lack of self preservation on these ppl was jaw dropping. Guy pulls a gun out you’d better start running

  2. All kinds of wrong with this video- Crazy dude pulls out a gun on idiots blocking the road, they foolishly decide to argue with the crazy gunman, the crazy gunman cowardly shoots them. He's completely at fault for this and it's sad that two people had their lives stolen, but you can't help but facepalm at the lack of self preservation on the side of the people there.

  3. The protesters were egging him on and telling him to shoot them… not exactly the best strategy. To be fair, it was only the women taunting him to shoot them… women once again unaware of actual real consequences.
