  1. There was a lot in this! Color and value. So tempting to buy yet another tool – the color block, but I listened to what you said about not being compelled to purchase every thing. So far, I have not held myself to, or even set a budget. Went crazy the first year buying paint and sticks, etc, brushes and papers, then took about 8 months off from buying and attending live classes. Back to class, but the not crazy spending. Using what I have, and it’s so fun playing! Thank you for the inspiration and you have a really nice voice and cadence. ❤

  2. The most misunderstood study throughout time… an age old question.

There are systems in place… also, subsystems in fact.
There are (6) colors: three primary, and three secondary. (Not counting blended colors.)
Regardless of temperature; each has its own singular Hue, in value. – This is a foundational mind set, (systemically)
This, I know to be true.

For example; in music, a C chord is made of its own system of three elements; the 1,3,5. But, let's compare it to a cup of coffee, (Monet Cafe style 😉
If we were to add cream to it, what would we have? Still, a cup of coffee, let's add sugar, then what? Still a cup of coffee.
The 'C' chord is a C regardless; if we flattened the 3rd it's now C,minor. But, still a C chord.
If we move up an interval, it's now a Sharp. If we add another 3rd, the 7th note, we end up having a C#min7, the most beautiful chord in my medicine bag. But still a cup of coffee.
Names of color have never served me, but having my own system has. 🤟

  3. An interesting series of paintings, you are so right about practice & lots of it, keep copious colour notes & thumbnails. Converting to black & white is a great way to show values, 1 & 3 are fairly similar. My favourites are 1 & 2 I like the abstract nature of them. I find looking at masses of poppy's that the colour is so vibrant & quite overwhelming, an absolute pain to photograph 🙂
