Paint A Motorcycle Frame For Under $200

I can finally take my BMW R60/5 project one step further! In today’s video, I’ll share with you how I paint a motorcycle frame for under $200 at home, so you can save yourself a little bit of money throughout your project.
If you decided to paint your own motorcycle frame then this video is for you!
Once you have your supplies, you can get your motorcycle frame ready for some primer. To do this you will need to fill in little blemishes with your spot & glazing putty. After your frame is smooth, you can clean it off to be able to apply a coat of primer. This is an etch primer and it will bond best directly to metal. Once your primer is dry you will be able to focus on your layers of top coats. This will take a little bit longer as you really want a good coat.
Once your top coats are applied you can let your paint fully cure or even spray your clear coat on directly. Whatever works best for you!
While using your clear coat, make sure to be extra careful about your distance from the metal surface, as a clear coat is much thinner than a primer or top coat. You can easily create paint runs if applied too thick.

After all these steps, you will want to let the paint and clear coat fully cure for at least 24 hours. Once everything is said and done, you should have a mirror-like finish on your frame and be able to continue with your project.

  1. Excellent job. I did not know about a 2 part clear coat from a spray can. Here in Richmond VA I believe I can have a motorcycle frame stripped and powder coated for about $300.00.
