We live full-time in our camper, but we don't travel, we still work full-time. And we are on our 3rd year.
In January, Time to repack the wheel bearings on the 5er. One wheel at a time. going to go to the parents home to get concrete and solid ground without dirt. Glad to hear, you are staying on the road. I can say that if you get a home base, please do not leave it empty. Squatters will come. We have a 5 year plan. tour the whole country and then see where we are. If the kids have kids, then we get closer to home. We have even looked at a toy hauler to take the grandkids if we have some.
I have never been a full time camper (RV or otherwise) but I have grown up in the Navy and moved every 2ish years like clockwork the first 15 or so years of my life. Two and half years after Dad retired I was ready to pack it all up and hit the road, only we couldn't afford it. Two and some years after that I was finally content to stay in the same area. Six years after that and I was quipping that 'like fine wine I do not travel well'. Now it would take a stick of dynamite to get me to move. I guess you could say that once I figured out the benefits of sticking in one place absolutely nothing could entice me to take back all the negatives of traveling that I am very familiar with from my childhood. Now an occasional camping trip during excellent weather and a good book is more than sufficient to satisfy any desire to explore. In short, you might get the itch to hit the road, or you might decide to sell off the RV and try owning a cabin – or put the RV on land and staying put. I'm sure you'll find something that works great for you.
I’m still saving the road for retirement I guess. But in the mean time I bought a small piece of land an hour out of the city in a lake community where I keep my camper stationary. It’s like my cabin in the woods now and I love it. Maybe something like that might be in your guys future. Loved the video. You two are adorable.
I don't know how I will be able to stop traveling. When we stay somewhere for a few weeks, I can't wait to get going again. My wife says we are going to buy a house in the next 3 years, but time will tell. We have been on the road for 3 years now, and we have 3 more years planned out. We will see what happens then. As they say, Never say Never!
We have been travelling full time for 5 years. We sold our house 4 years ago and no regrets. We do own an RV lot that we spend the summer at (the Park closes for the winter) but do not have the commitment.of the sticks and bricks. Yes there are downsides, but the travel that we get to do more than makes up for the rest. I guess you have to look at why you wanted to travel in the first place and has that changed? Why did you sell the house?
It was because of a video that we watched of yours that we ended up at the RV park in Myrtle Beach and even extended. The information was so valuable so thank you for that. Good luck on whaevert you choose to do. But remember you hav to do you. Life is short.

Will you guy still do the videos parttime, I enjoy your honesty and by the way best of luck on what ever you decide ,the wife and I are still part-time rving and its working for us for now and I still do some part time work
For us (mostly me, my wife never gets health issues) I enjoy being near my mom for elder care with early Alzheimers and then my own health issues as I age, we need the continuity of care. We now have a seasonal site at our favorite campground just a few hours away in northern Wisconsin. We’re also doing home improvements to enjoy our sticky bricks. Another consideration is property equity. (Campers rarely increase the in value, LOL) I believe Memories make up most of who we are. Make positive meaningful memories with those you want to be remembered by. Let that help guide your decision. Good Luck!
You guys are still young. As you head into your 60s, especially if health issues arise, being close to doctors, family, church and friends and having the security of a paid-for home base may become more important than freedom & travel. Thats what ive seen by watching other rv youtubers over the past several years. We have a tiny camper and a Thousand Trails camping pass. We live within 4 hours from several TT parks. While wed love to travel the USA, we go out for short spurts ( up to 18 days at a time) and explore the areas surrounding those few parks. Phone hot spots for hubbys pt online teaching retirement job. Home base + times to explore. Security & familiarity + (limited) adventure. Works for us.
Good luck on your decision Bob and Kari. I could never do Rving full time but love the part-time. All the things you mentioned as cons go away with a home base. You forgot one item on your list – in order to move around you need a pickup truck and they require maintenance and repairs. The newer ones are much more expensive and much less reliable than they used to be , and are chocked full of high tech gadgetry that you don't really need and is very expensive to repair.
Why Quit
I was an Owner Operator Truck Driver of 2 trucks, i had a blood clot that caused a stroke, i had a phone call from DOT Washington DC they tell me i can't drive commercial fur at lease 1 year 1 truck was paid off the other truck wasn't neurologist and heart Dr said you'll never drive a Truck again but you can a car. I been waiting 39 months for disability with several issues, once i ever get disability i want to do Van Life im a fall risk patient can't but the head could have another stroke etc, well going the math on a place in Myrtle Beach total $900 a month and $310 SBA and what few bills i got it leaves me $200 a month, Van Life it can save me $500-600 a month, so ill be doing Van Life. Maybe i can get a GF then 😂 atm i can't afford one fur past 39 months 😢. And i miss the road, once you been on the road and leave it ya miss it first couple months after stroke at home was fine after that i was driving me nuts, my Chihuahua Hershey misses the road, everyone the car cranks hrs gotta go
We have a home base & for us, that brings stability & security. We travel for months at a time, then go back to base for appointments & maintenance to truck/RV, then back on the road. We have a TT membership which allows us to afford having both. This is what works for us & may not work for others. Nothing wrong with however you choose to live. Enjoy life!
Well id check out the real-estate market whre children are.. kinda when you find the perfect house at perfect price u will know it..
We’re out in our camper, the same as yours, 4-5 months out of the year, but are always happy to get back to our home near our kids and for the holidays. I don’t blame you for considering the same. Best of luck!
I’d buy an acre and set it up for your RV. Build a gazebo and set it up as an out door living space. Build a garden, maybe in a high tunnel. This way you can leave when the traveling bug hits you. It is maybe the least expensive way to live for now.

We have a travel trailer, actually, same model as yours. You helped us decide on which RV to get. Hubby has heart issues but when spring comes we will be traveling as much as possible in between appointments. We have downsized a lot. We have a home base, getting it prepared still for a place for the trailer to park while we are here. We have a small cabin we can stay in while we are at (home). You need to make yourselves happy. We can’t wait to hit the road. We plan on being gone for a month home for 2 weeks, then back out. We have quite a few things on our bucket list we need to get accomplished.
