Ottawa Police Service said on Thursday that the homicide unit was called in after six people — four children and two adults — were found dead inside a home in the west-end Ottawa suburb of Barrhaven on Wednesday night.
Police said one person was taken into custody and that there is no threat to public safety, and the victims’ identities have not yet been released.
“This is a tragic and complex investigation, and investigative teams remain on Berrigan Drive,” police said, asking that anyone with information contact Ottawa police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
In a statement on X, Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe called it “one of the most shocking incidents of violence in our city’s history” and said that “We are proud to live in a safe community but this news is distressing to all Ottawa residents.”

A 19-year-old student from Sri Lanka who lived with the family has been charged in the killings.
Family were likely liberals, so I feel absolutely nothing.
The family let a murderer into their house. They won't be making that mistake again.
If only there was a law that allowed people to protect themselves in Canada with firearms (or really anything), its such a shame this family had to just accept death because criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens.

People in comments who hate immigrants: If you want less immigrants, fight for them to pay equal tuition (not 200%) as other students, and for the minimum wage to be equal livable wage, and watch how they wont be able to get jobs and decide to go home sooner. I was in a criminology class in yyc where a few detectives overviewed a similar case. It was horrific and 15 years later they were still in tears, I feel so bad for the victims and their families, but also for the officers, pa assistants, coroner and crime scene techs and admin who have to deal with the aftermath
