  1. On the steam deck compatibility front:

Is it ok if you play while the steam deck is plugged in though? While that reduces the ability to play the game on the go, I would think that would resolve the battery issue.

  2. I have a suggestion, Mort.. make a list ranking your favorite to lwast favorite games that are real time with pause crpgs.

So many gamea are releasing with turn based only, that there is fewer and fewer real time games. I used to enjoy turn based games, but am becoming quite jaded on the genre. BG3, and Rogue Trader being two that hit the hardest for me.

  3. I would really love it if you included the fun factor to get the 100% of a game compared to just finishing the game (I very rarely go for 100% as it is usually either grind to the max or insane trophy requirements). Great review otherwise as always

  4. Mort, have you ever looked at / played Aarklash Legacy? Similar to this, there is a throwaway story but still one of my favorite active-pause combat games where party synergy matters and paying very close attention to enemy cooldowns/abilities/etc. really mattered.

  5. Played this awhile back, went to see my achievements on it now and I got all but one. I think the one I missed is to beat the whole thing in one shot? That sounds… rough. Was a fun game though.

  6. this game is awsome, amazing gameplay, soundtrack is insane, i finished this some months ago, and the visual creepy and obscure, black and white with details red is crazy, nice video, hug from a brazilian fan. PS: I listen to the soundtrack to this day

  7. I have to say you are the first person I have ever heard pronounce vitae as vy-tae and not as vee-tae. I decided to look up and see if I learned it wrong, but apparently it can be pronounced either way. I just pronounce like its latin derivation, vee-tae.

  8. Nice that you have reviewed this game!
I really liked this one, first you think of the pictures and trailers that it's just some half nude dressed anime game, but that is not really the case. It's a very tactical, unforgiving fun game with neat art style.

  9. The last boss issue reminds me of Guided-Fate Paradox. Last boss Level 100; boss before then 60 or something. And of course level ups get progressively longer; so while you can quite naturally progress from boss to boss through the game the final boss requires hours of grind. It's a such a stupid thing to do; just ruins the end of a game for me.

  10. At least grinding seems to get you somewhere, and you can get your characters back. Darkest Dungeon needs to learn from that. That said, mandatory grinding to progress sucks. Although if you combined the progression of this game with the style and complexity of DD, their strengths might make up for each other. This one seems rewarding but simple, while DD is complex but not rewarding. Why is it so hard for designers to get into the sweet spot?

  11. Huh, for some reason this game is already in my steam account. I don't remember buying it though. Looks interesting enough to try, especially since I don't have to pay (Any more at least) for it

  12. If you have a power meter connected to your desktop when you play Othercide, you will see that the second it gets to the main menu, it hits your GPU full-on. I suspect this is the reason for the rapid battery drain on Steam Deck.

I had a battery backup unit I had bought for my PC, essentially as a line filter (during storms we get a lot of brownouts), and running Othercide would literally trip the Battery Backup unit after getting to the main menu almost immediately.

  13. I've had this one in my library for sometime but didn't play it as I had played too many rogue likes and didn't feel like another. After hearing you can basically just continue the game with your starting characters I'm keen to give it another go, thanks to your video.

  14. I lost to the final boss and was so daunted I haven't touched it in months. otherwise love the game
would love to see you review Geneforge! it's one that's stuck in my head for many years with an incredibly interesting setting that interweaves into the mechanics

  15. I totally agree, is a pretty little game, but the grind (and the lack of a modding community) kill it for me. It would be nice if they give you 5th character and a new boss/enemies after you lose against the last one.
