Shadow Defence Minister Andrew Hastie says the Opposition were the ones who “initiated” the “historic” deal to acquire eight nuclear submarines.
“We’re glad that the Albanese government has taken the action to acquire eight nuclear submarines,” he told Sky News Austalia.
“That doesn’t mean we don’t have questions, and that doesn’t mean we won’t act as an opposition and hold this government to account, but this is a historic day for Australia.”

Only white news spread fear and hate we need subs
liberals did all the hard yards, labour just spent the money, needs to be done regardless.
yep, they did
The LNP certainly did initiate it……
I bet the Libs will squeal like stuck pigs if taxes are raised to pay for it.
Now you need to pile shit on the liberals for supporting this acquisition of these submarines that will cost so much money. You piled shit on Labor now you need to put shit on the liberals. Looking forward to that.
It’s a dud – of course they did.
What a colossal waste of money.. A millstone around the neck of the next generation. Obsolete vanity project.
TEALS voters will get stuck with the bill if all of their superannuation hasn't been confiscated by then.
I wouldn't be putting my hand up to take responsibility for what is highly likely to prove to be the most expensive disaster ever in Australia's history.
About the only positive is it will make the Snowy2 debacle look cheap.
doesn’t matter what we get because mostly nobody here will even be allowed to have a drive or a ride an i don’t feel safer either way
Well that's the problem. You're trying to pay for it 'without jeopardising the other programs that Australians Enjoy" You need to jeopardise these programs, Many of them. Aussies will probably be more understanding than you think. This of course means letting go of a tremendous number of government staff and that's probably the hardest part to implement. The wails will be deafening.
Well, Morrison started it but it would be good to acknowledge the current government is following on and hasn't been too critical of the whole deal. So stop beating your own chest and let's make this truly bipartisan.
Why don't they have solar powered electric subs ?
The USA sticks their old reactors out in the desert were they can be seen and counted on satellite cameras.
Most submarines are going to be unmanned. These submarines are redundant already
Because they did!
Conventional drone submarines will replace "big end of town" submarines. 💰💰💰💰💰💰
Large numbers of low cost disposable drone subs today V's a few over priced Uber quality weapons 40 years from now. 😱😱🔥🔥🔥🔥
Is Sky News trying to rewrite History and frame it as a Labor Government Initiative? Like the ABC would ! Of Course The Former Conservative LNP Government initiated the Deal for AUKUS .. Labor Greens Keating Rudd Carr Turnbull .. Bagged the Idea Nuclear Powered Submarines from The Beginning .. these People are All Chinese centrists.. they Supported every Criticism leveled Against Australia from China The ABC also got in on the Act
Talk about the F35 deal Australia is part of too.
Strictly speaking that's true.
50% of skys content is the promotion of aukus. its like they are charged with selling to to the nation
sky cant get enough of cheerleading aukus
100% correct. AUKUS is a LNP initiative & nothing for Albanese to claim credit for. No doubt Albanese will suck on more helium & tell all Australians in his Mickey Mouse voice that he is the brainchild behind AUKUS.
Because they did! Aukus was started under the morrison gov! A quick googke search will prove that!
