🤔 NEW HERE? 🤔
Hi! My name is Christopher Odd and I’ve been playing video games on the internet for a few years. I really enjoy a variety of games but generally lean towards games with a unique and engaging story (Bioshock, The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us etc), strategy/roguelike games (XCOM 2 War of the Chosen, Darkest Dungeon, etc), and RPGs (Dark Souls, Dragon Age, etc). Of course, I am always looking for great indie games too!

XCOM 2 is the sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the 2012 award-winning strategy game of the year.

Earth has changed. Twenty years have passed since world leaders offered an unconditional surrender to alien forces. XCOM, the planet’s last line of defense, was left decimated and scattered. Now, in XCOM 2, the aliens rule Earth, building shining cities that promise a brilliant future for humanity on the surface, while concealing a sinister agenda and eliminating all who dissent from their new order.

Only those who live at the edges of the world have a margin of freedom. Here, a force gathers once again to stand up for humanity. Always on the run, and facing impossible odds, the remnant XCOM forces must find a way to ignite a global resistance, and eliminate the alien threat once and for all.

XCOM ON THE RUN: Take command of the Avenger, an alien supply craft converted to XCOM’s mobile headquarters. New open-ended gameplay lets you decide where to guide your strike team, how to grow popular support, and when to combat enemy counter-operations.
RECRUIT RESISTANCE FIGHTERS: Five soldier classes, each with its own skill tree, let you create specific soldiers for your tactical plan.
TACTICAL GUERRILLA COMBAT: New gameplay systems offer more tactical flexibility in combat. Use concealment to ambush enemy patrols. Loot enemies for precious gear and artifacts. Rescue VIPs and save fallen comrades by carrying them to the extraction point.

  1. Like, what do your Soldiers do that reloading is turn ending aka taking a long time? Do they have the bullets and the magazin seperate on the bottom of their backpacks? Do they take of the Backpack, get all the bullets from the bottom, take the bullets in the magazin and THEN reloading their Weapon? It makes NO sense. A real Soldiers learns to reload his Weapon in seconds under fire in the dark. This mod only makes the early game a bit awkward, and then you put auto reloaders on everyone (and thus limiting a weapon slot for more interesting choices) But hey, i am also here to see all those cool characters die because youre out of ammo and all the shots were grazes on a high hp enemy…

  2. I'm liking turn-ending reloads. It makes many options more viable and interesting, such as pistol sidearms. It becomes a thing you consider during mission prep. It makes a distinction between Marauder and Light 'em Up. I say keep it in!

I will say that you should probably tone down the graze band a bit, though. The graze band was balanced for Long War, where every soldier had ablative HP to mitigate the effects of random low % grazes on them, and cover is a lot more resilient. Maybe turn it down to 5% instead of 10%.

  3. If turn ending reloads are gone I won’t miss them! Really breaks up the action in a dissatisfying way and seems like a nuisance just for the sake of it.

Also definitely second your comment on the enemy variety, it’s been super cool so far!

  4. I think a good way you can combat the reload thing is by having Speed loader upgrades for weapons give you bonus action reload all throughout the mission instead of only 3 times. Sure itll be annoying to have turn ending reloads but at least its something that you can avoid with proper planning

  5. Grazes + reloads slows the game a lot IMO. Wouldn’t mind dropping the reload. But happy to watch play pretty much any mod combos. Lots of great characters this season.

  6. First the important part, mega thaaaans for this awesome series!!! 😁I feel like I know little to nothing about the game, so I'll only say that if it feels like the base of the game was thought without turn-ending reloads then maybe everything else gets too impacted by them being there. Maybe not so much in this early stage, but maybe later it will be. In any case you could always try it without and put them back if needed, right?

  7. in my head lore. i like to think of turns as a reflection of the time in the mission, like for example 1 turn=2 minutes, or something like that. so be these grounds i think turn ending reload kinda breaks my immersion in the world. i dislike it greatly

  8. From what I've seen, turn ending reloads simply leads to using "meta" items and skills to mitigate that. It is not actualy challenging, but limiting. And considering the health pools and additional enemy types added through your mods, running out of free reloads may end in really frustrating squadwipes. Additionaly, X-com 2 has not been designed around turn ending reloads-on the contrary you could even say. Your modlist does not seem to be a total conversion editing the mechanics affected- for example the lost- and you'd have to make a lot more edits to make the mod viable as an actual, hard but fair challenge.

  9. I don’t see why reloads should end the turn- to make it as consequential as shooting seems wild to me. To not be able to reload then shoot in a turn really puts limits that make the game worse in my opinion

  10. I think turn ending reloads are fine, they're only annoying when lost are involved. As you tech up, it creates interesting choices on weapon mod upgrades and when you take time to reload. If it's possible, maybe tweak it so that if you kill a lost unit during your turn, your reload isn't turn ending. Not sure how hard that condition is to code in. I think that gives you the best of both worlds. Whatever the choice though, good luck! I hope this series becomes a yearly thing 🙂

  11. Also playing a round of your mods chris as the missus saw this playlist and was keen to watch. Can anyone advise why i cant see any of your cosmetic characters? Is there something else I need to enable besides your mod list?

  12. Personal Log #6

    Rex "Lil Man" Marshall

    Operation Mexican Spark

    (Translated from French)

    26 April 2035

    Afternoon–17:15

Recovery took a hell of a long time and I just did not have the energy to log. The last mission had a cool name, Mexican Spark. Another perfect mission despite the increased level of difficulty. And the mission before that one only had one person wounded—slightly at that—while rescuing a VIP and two more soldiers. We’ve also made contact with the Skirmishers, the ex-ADVENT folks freed from their programming, and got one of them joining us up on the Avenger. Our Skirmisher’s name is Shadowstrike and he sounds super tough! It’s been nice to have some good news after Melk’s death.

Damn it, another haven is being attacked; this time it’s in South Africa. It seems like the Warlock will be there and the comms below sound gruesome, agonizing screams. Even the commander is, quote “very very nervous” about this mission.

I’m getting pinged. Next man up, right?

Shit, I’m not going to lie. I’m scared. I’m really scared.

  13. Turn them off (also tell me how to turn them off)

I appreciate added levels of difficulty, but in a game that is very much about efficiently using your actions, that's just not fun.

  14. Just remove the reload mod. It is just super unfun. Feels like it makes the game artificially harder by removing options, and gives the experience of just making the player more helpless – removes player agency. So yeah, easy call.

  15. Personally I like the turn ending reloads as you have to use them more sparingly, however the play style in XCOM 2 is different from EW.

EW you are on the defensive more so than 2 which is leaning towards
guerrilla warfare with hit and run.

XCOM 2 has more mechanics such as the lost and the ambush missions as you said and with turn ending reload it makes it harder to do anything with those missions.

Overall I think the best decision would be to disable it to allow the campaign to flow better.
