Onlookers watch as fire rescue helicopter crashes in Pompano Beach, Florida; 2 hospitalized



Two people have been taken to the hospital after a Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue helicopter crashed in Pompano Beach, Florida, on Monday morning, the sheriff’s office said.

Three people were on board, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

  1. Incredible that people survived this crash. I have never seen a one level apartment building until today. I wonder what alarms were going off considering the mechanical failure that was brewing on this chopper. Was the pilot too focused on getting to the emergency and missed the critical alarms that could have avoided disaster

  2. Excellent that no one was killed! Looks like something was wrong with the tail rotor. It seems to have broken off just before crashing into the building and smoke was coming from it.

  3. Generally i found when i worked the ER that transfers under 150 miles were faster with a ground unit. The helocopters take crazy time switching equiptment ie ivs etc from hospital to their machines. Lots of wasted time. By the time they get there, load up n go the added speed never helps unless the transport is over 150 miles.

    As well helocopters have less space to work on patients. Helocopters r a crotch rocket ride for the nurses n paramedics but dont help outcomes unless travel is over 150 miles at least AND THEY R DANGEROUS!
