One Piece, I Have Started My Journey, 1-49 – Mangastorian Book Club

A lot of you said you were interested in my One Piece journey and this video did get delayed. But we’re finally starting it. Since this is such an older series I thought it would be fun to treat it more like a book club read along thing. So if you are starting it with me, we can read One Piece together and I can throw out my ideas and theories as we’re going. Its also less of a chapter by chapter recap and more me just spitballing what happened with my thoughts on it as it was going on.

  1. I dont want you guys to think Im ignoring your comments over here. I just am avoiding doing anything but skimming these since I dont want to get spoiled. I feel like for these "Book club" style videos, where its more of me just saying what happened and my opinions, I should probably avoid spoilers as best as I can. Gonna be rough since Im trying to avoid 1000 chapters though lol

  2. Very interesting. Syrup Village arc is considered by most as one of the weakest arcs in the series. If you dug that, and are picking up on the heart incorporated in these stories, then I think you'll really love the series.

  5. I feel like Gaimon is there to establish a running theme, in One Piece. Gaimon waited 20 years to obtain what he thought was a great bounty, but was content in just protecting the island. Rarely do the Straw Hats ever get to keep their treasures, but the one they will finally obtain and keep will be an incredibly valuable one that the others could have never added up, to. I won't say how this theme plays out, but those moments are interesting and sometimes really funny.

  6. What a bless! Never saw it coming. The legend is gonna jump on a pirate ship? Can't wait to see/hear your thoughts on next arcs, the characters, the powers, the fights, the lore. Everything. This journey is beyond a blast to be.

  7. I liked the video, but wish more that you talk about moments that you liked. At the moment it just feels like a recap with nearly no personal emotions to it, and for that I just could read a summary

  8. Hi Mangastorian. This style of video felt to me like you skimmed at superhuman speed through a whole bunch of manga chapters while sleep deprived and then did a 20 minute break to do a 1 shot, non-edited, off the top recounting of events. Where a lot of it got jumbled together so much that it is practically a different story but still somehow mostly on the right track. It's not a style I like, but I will enjoy anyway simply from being completely different to anything I've watched in this space. See you in your next video.

  9. Glad your starting this series. One thing about one piece is it has some of the best world building I have ever seen. And it deals with a lot of heavy topics you wouldn't think it would at first glance. Please stick with it you are in for a wild ride.

  10. Luffy beat Koby up because they are friends and he wanted to protect Koby's dream of becoming an admiral. With the Chou-Chou the pet store was his treasure and Luffy was pissed that it was destroyed. Gaimon (the guy in the treasure chest) is a canon character the manga just does his story sooner then the anime did it. Nami doesn't take the boat until we meet Sanji after Syrup Village. An important aspect you didn't mention was that Buggy damages the straw hat and this sets Luffy off as its his treasure.

  11. One Piece is definitely childlike and whimsical but it also deals with heavy themes throughout the series. That and the characters are the core part of what make it such an amazing franchise to so many people. Just wait for Arlong Park you'll understand exactly what One Piece is when you finish that arc.

  12. It's normal to be confused about a lot of things early on, but do yourself a favor and don't go googling stuff about One Piece. There are so many great twists and mysteries in this series so you should be careful to avoid spoilers if you can. Also, it would be better to split your videos up by arc instead of going by arbitrary numbers.
