It’s been five years since Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico. Despite changes to how its electrical grid is managed, the island’s residents still deal with rolling blackouts and continuous power outages — even when no storm hits. David Begnaud reports.

Gotta hand it to David
Poor people of Puerto Rico CNN and MSNBC has put out many reports on the corruption of hundreds of millions of dollars that are disappearing and winding up in the hands of contractors and politicians not helping out the poor people of Puerto Rico
Continue your great work in Puerto Rico
Luma is full of Crap! They swindle Federal Aid and don’t do their job!
… In Sept. 2017, They were first hit by Hurricane Irma, … Many are unaware, that although the island suffered damage, they gathered themselves enough to bring in people from other islands that were more devastated, … including NON U.S. islands.
These guests were housed at the Convention Center in San Juan …. Cruise Ships ferried them in …….. And they were provided shelter and food.
The people of Puerto Rico mobilized what little they had to help others even when they were hurt.
A week later, Hurricane Maria Hit, AND Thousands lost their lives AFTER THE STORM HAD PASSED.
TODAY, the American Citizens of Puerto Rico are again being tested … HELP THEM.
Is it "Racist" this time? Did you get your Brand New 'Nasty Woman' t shirts in though???
David please look into the atrocities patients in “Centro Medico” (the main public hospital in PR) have to experience, especially pediatric oncology, where doctors lie to prevent parents to seek help in st jude, and other cancer hospitals, and electrical problems with blackouts where people have died due to the generators failing!!!
Nightclubs get power First again???
Tony good for you your not a nerd
Puerto Rico is prime for solar and wind energy production
I lived in PR for three years before Maria. This has been a long going problem. There were weekly power outages without a storm. They were mainly only a few seconds to minutes though.
The electric service in Puerto Rico is poor, because half of the Puerto Ricans there live in poverty. If Puerto Rico were not a United States (US) colony, she would have a first rate electrical system.
The US militarily invaded Puerto Rico in 1898 to make her a US colony. In 1945, the US refused to comply with the United Nations’ (UN) Charter that prohibits colonialism for being a crime against humanity. Moreover, the US has ignored 41 UN resolutions asking her to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. The US has never defended democracy. She has only used that word to defend only the interests of her 1% of citizens. That has meant 124 years of US colonialism for Puerto Ricans! If the relationship between the US and Puerto is so good for Puerto Ricans, why do two thirds of us live away from our national territory? Why must Puerto Ricans abandon Puerto Rico to supposedly “enjoy all of the benefits” of having US citizenship? Could it be that it was designed that way to get Puerto Ricans out of Puerto Rico? Why should Puerto Ricans be the only ones in the world without our own citizenship? The 9 million Boricuas worldwide must wake up and organize ourselves to engage in permanent resistance to force the US to comply with international law. Puerto Ricans need not be poor in Puerto Rico.
JOBS MASTEC NATIONWIDE PUERTO RICO VOTE BLUE
Sounds like a lot of missed opportunity to for these folks to fix their own problems.
Great reporting, thanks
Don’t believe Pedro. He is a known liar and a vile human. Why don’t you ask him why were you backing Luma and what they provided him.
Excellent reporting David, i am sure Puerto Rico citizens appreciate the spotlight on these absolutely essential issues that are being treated so cavalierly.
Fun fact; The CEO of LUMA salary is 1 million a year in a bankrupted island!
The puerto rico government is no different from the Democrats socialist political vew Lesson learned
