On September 6th, 2024, 43-year-old Ryan Beierman was enjoying a bear hunting trip with Owen, his 12-year-old son. Ryan was an experienced outdoorsman and father of two, living in River Falls, Wisconsin. On this particular hunting trip, he was joined by his son Owen, who had already developed a passion for hunting. With a bear hunting permit in hand, Owen hoped to harvest a bear for the first time. The two set out together, armed with a handgun and Owenβs hunting rifle, excited for a father-son outing.
The Beiermans had set out a bear bait station which is legal in select states including Wisconsin, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Minnesota, Michigan, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Maine, and Alaska with the remaining 38 states having banned it according to the humane society website. Following the required guidelines for establishing a bear bait station, they regularly stocked it with bait to bring in bears and likely surveilled the bears approaching the bait station with automatic game cameras. This allows hunters to determine the size and traits of bears feeding at the bait stations. The Beiermanβs owned a family cabin just outside of Siren where they had set up their bait station.
Observing from an elevated tree stand, the Beiermans would spend the majority of the day waiting for bears to come into the bait station. About 6 PM Owen spotted a bear slipping through the shadows of the forest toward the bait. This was the moment he was waiting for and he drew down on the bearβs vital area with his rifle, waiting for the optimal moment to dispatch it.
He slowly squeezed the trigger and the report of the rifle roared as it kicked against his shoulder. Being an inexperienced bear hunter, Owen had mistakenly shot the bear in a place that was not immediately fatal to the animal. He peered over the rifle as the bear disappeared into the forest, hoping to watch it tumble in its death throes.
Ryan and Owen were overjoyed with the thought of a successful harvest of the bear. They knew better than dashing into the forest after the bear and waited twenty minutes before taking up the blood trail.
At that point, they implemented the second phase of their plan to harvest a bear. They brought out the neighborβs dog to help them track the bear and it picked up the blood trail quickly.
As they navigated their way through the forest, the Beiermans became encumbered in a thick patch of bushes. They worked their way through it with Ryan emerging before his son into a small clearing. Just as they emerged the neighborβs dog yelped from the brush on the far side and dashed past them in a hasty retreat.
Seeing the dark shape of the bear in the brush, Ryan muttered βThere he is Owenβ. Immediately after that the angry and wounded bear emerged only six feet from the hunters and closed in on them with blinding speed.
Now Ryan wasnβt ill-prepared for a close-range encounter with the bear as he held his sidearm in his hand as the bear closed in on him. Firing eight shots as quickly as he could, Ryan hoped to stop the bear in its tracks but missed each shot.
The next thing Ryan was aware of, he was on his back and could only see the bearβs teeth and claws. He pulled his right arm up over his head to block the bearβs bite and heard the crunch of his bones as it closed its mouth on his arm. Still holding his pistol, Ryan pistol-whipped the bear about the head. Aiming for the area between the bearβs ear and jaw he hoped to knock it unconscious if not kill it, but it was like hitting a brick wall.
From Ryanβs perspective, the bear was a tornado of slashing claws and snapping jaws. It bit him all over his body so quickly that the only way he knew the bearβs location was by the pain from its bites and strikes. Kicking at the bear, Ryan felt its teeth punch into the flesh of his leg and then begin to rip into his abdomen. After biting and tearing at his stomach the bear turned its attack to his head and latched onto his cheek. As the bear ripped a large ribbon of flesh from his face, Ryanβs eyes turned and registered a flash from the muzzle of Owenβs rifle.
Thinking the end was very near, Ryan suddenly felt the bear go limp as it collapsed on top of him. Now realizing the worst was over, Ryan struggled to push the bearβs mass from atop himself. Blood seeped from deep gashes and bites on his arm, legs, abdomen, and face, but he was alive, and his son had saved his life.

Amazing this young son could keep his wits about him and protect his father! So proud he did! Thanks Addicus this one was incredible β€π
I thought there was excessive dwelling on wound description. π’
Bear hunts are inadequate trials for measuring the value & degree of masculinity in any participant male or female, whatever their age. It'll be fun to see how AI addresses human "rites of passage" that predate "Itself" (?) by thousands of years — and how it chooses to replace them.
a black bear can be just as deadly as a grizzly bear so they should not be underestimated they are a force to be reckoned with
Don't sugar coat stories, just tell them as it was and the aftermath. Every story is different even though some common threads run between many. Every detail of these encounters is valuable to warn people of al the variables so they can broaden their awareness. The point of making them more public is to save lives.
I don't think it's right to bate anything that's hungry or just trying to survive
This young hunter is a natural American boy.Hunts with his dad & loves the outdoors. My dad & I were like this when I was a boy.Him saving his dad's life was a natural reaction.Don't blame the bear he was just defending himself.
That's one hunt they will never forget. Well done Owen. Helping save your dad.
What firearms were used?
I'm not gonna watch this shit! Bear baiting and killing!
# 1 hit the vitals wounded bears are deadly.
Brave boy β€
1st rule: Never bring a dog on a bear hunt. 2nd rule: Never bring a dog on a bear hunt. 3rd rule: If you missed the first 2 rules – give up hunting. Bears can smell dogs for miles.
Great story. Thanks so much
rooaaarrrr!
I love these videos – but duude I reckon you could invest in better maps π
Love that YT is absolutely censoring any attempt I make to speak against this celebration of cruelty.
Natural selection at its finest π

Much prefer the stories when the humans win.
Thanks for the great story!!
???? i wonder if we could get information with Scary Bear Attacks as to the caliber and particular bullet the hunters were using. It would be helpful and add to the understanding of the incident.
The state record black bear in WI weighs over 800lbs. Now, I dont know how many 800 pounders are running around out there but I can guarantee you we have all kinds of 5 to 600lb bears. I lived up north for 40 years and have had a few spicy encounters, I do not walk in the woods without being armed as bears are now spread from north to south and from lake to river.
As always fantastic job thank you
I know that you need to keep populations down, but itβs cruel
the real story. they wounded the bear then tracked it. the bear was hurt that they caused.
When it comes to hunters tracking bears I take no sides because the bear is fighting for it's life and whatever happens, happens.
Noob
8 shots and NONE made contact with the bear? ΒΏ?
to the person who made the comment about black bears being cute cuddly why don`t you try and pet and see what happens that would not be very bright
futtin bear hunters
Can it really be called hunting if you set up a trap literally in your yard and sit inside your own house waiting for the bear to walk into your sights? That's not real hunting. More like ambushing in the laziest possible way.
I have other words to describe a father who would take a child so young into dense bush chasing after an injured bear. And that same father couldn't hit said bear even once from only a few feet away with a fully loaded pistol. This whole thing makes me feel like the two of them think they're playing a video game. Makes me wonder if that child had ever been in the forest doing actual hunting before or if he just 'thought' he was a good hunter because he could shoot from inside the house? That's probably the most dangerous thing to teach your kid. Not hiding safely inside your house to 'practice hunting' might have prevented Ryan from getting himself into such a situation and forcing his child to save his life. The poor kid will probably have nightmares for a very long time about missing the shot again. What a huge responsibility to put your ill-prepared kid into. Father of the year! What if that bear had jumped onto his kid? Wow. Neither one of them had any right to be hunting, or pretending to hunt, anything.
Dont believe evrything you hear
The Father seems like a very inexperienced hunter
Hopefully the conservation department doesn't try and fine him. A young girl where i live in Missouri accidentally hit a black bear killing it they actually tried to Prosecute her
