During the college football game between Texas Tech and Oklahoma State, an Oklahoma State player called for a fair catch on a Texas Tech onside kick. The Red Raiders recovered the kick, but since the Oklahoma State player was bumped on the play Texas Tech was called for fair catch interference and Oklahoma State got the ball.

Sorry it’s kinda hard to see from the camera angles provided
I mean, I get why he did it but it’s kind of a bogus rule. How you going to “allow him to catch” an onside kick after first bounce? What’s the point of an onside kick then??
props to the announcing booth to quickly know the rule to explain to the audience
I've always wondered why players don't call for a fair catch on onside kicks.
They gotta start giving out awards for heads-up plays like these. I haven't seen that kind of awareness at any level of football in a LONG time.
So does this just make onside kicks impossible now?
to play devil's advocate, why doesn't every team just have all of their receivers call for fair catch when defending an onside kick? Including in the NFL
Bro everyone was so mentally fucked by that fair catch that the TV broadcast had the first down hash facing the wrong way on the start of play
Hi IQ play but what's the point of a onside kick then?
Now everyone will do that.. another sad day for the sport of football.
That is an ABSOLUTE bullshit rule in regards to an onside kick….
Well, what's the name of the number 22 player?
The annoying part about this is how the announcers pretended that they knew the rule the whole time, AND didn't even see that it wasn't a high bounce! Ball never hit the ground, this would've flew even without that rule.
That's like a 1,000 football IQ. Good play.
Football has turned into a pussy sport theses days now.
That is so lame
This was an incredible heads up, what a smart dude!
This ruins the game.
I have so much respect for OSU and Mike Gundy. I'm never even mad when y'all beat us every year. Plays like this are why.
I guess I don't understand the rule, once the ball travels 10 yards it becomes live, thus it should negate the fair catch, no?
OK smart, but this is stupidest rule, there's basically no such thing as a onside kick anymore.
Unfair catch. Dumb rule.
Wow. One of the smartest plays I can recall.
Funny how the announcers start off saying that Oklahoma wasn't ready for it, but the fact #22 reacted so quickly waving for a fair catch, shows they were definitely ready and expecting it lol. Well done by the coaches, and to #22 for reacting so quickly on the ball.
Uno Reverse Card
Pussy just catch the ball
whats the point of an onside kick if you can call the fair catch on a bounce!?
That was some of the most impressive on-the-fly thinking I've seen in college ball in a long time. Hus ability to quick-react like that was excellent.
Out of curiosity, if the receiving team immediately sees an onside kick and some or all call for a fair catch, does that not make an onside kick pointless?
