Lyrics:
I wish I could say it would all be all right
(It’ll all be all right)
I wish I could tell you it would all be fine
(It’ll all be just fine)

But a stone only rolls downhill
and these things,
they’ll be what they will
what they will

Someday soon you’ll look out from your hilltop perch
your heart worn out from trying to make sense of the arc
which only bends one way
and you rightly afraid
it don’t seem to be the way that we thought

And I wish I could say it would all be all right
(It’ll all be all right)
I wish I could tell you it would all be fine
(It’ll all be just fine)

But a stone only rolls downhill
and these things
they’ll be what they will
what they will

And oh the inertia
of our ravenous brand of avarice
of our selfishness
It was just too much
to overcome
Now we’re overrun

And I wish I could say it would all be all right
(It’ll all be all right)
I wish I could tell you it would all be fine
(It’ll all be just fine)

Oh how I wish that I could tell you it would be all right
could tell you it’ll all be fine, it’ll work out
Oh how I wish I could tell you it’ll all be fine
(It’ll all be just fine)

  1. Going through a hard time and this video and song is so soothing. It’s just been on repeat. Thank you for making it.

(Caveat: soothing As long as you turn off the producer brain trying to figure out the shot list and storyboarding)

  2. Did they film a behind the scenes of this on an extra phone or anything? I want to see the camera behind the camera behind the camera behind the camera behind the camera behind the camera behind the camera behind the camera behind the camera behind

  3. After the 2nd watch I think I got it. Is hard to tell if some of the actions were straight up composited with green screens in some of the shots. Specially the ones that interlace like at 1:55.

I believe everything before that mark was pure practical, but passing that the easiest way to go it seems, is recording each bit with a screen, compositing at editors and creative director choice looking up for the best patterns to create the most interesting transitions when taking the phones in and out. Same with the chorus part where the phones make the face.

About the story board of whats practical, I think they figured recording the same shot, first 4 times, then 7 times, then 42 times and then 42 times again at 2:58 but visualizing the center of the frame being projected in the border of two different phones so when put together they make the image. That's probably my favorite one. Then again at 3:06 but in the entire scene so by that theres 84 shots composing it all.

If I'm not mistaken the rest of the magic lies on the acting which complements the entire idea so beautifully. Possibly this is their least difficult video made so far. But the idea is so simple but so well executed that it still leaves you in awe,

  4. From the bottom of my heart thank you OK Go. You make some of the most jaw dropping, effort vortex music videos that I can watch 300+ times and still spot cool new stuff in and have been doing it for nearly as long as social media has existed. I hope we can see the amazing stuff you do for years to come.
