I think "blacksmith tongs" understates the case for that piece. I believe those were used in an industrial forge environment, probably by a three man crew working a large piece in a big press or hammer.
for my old Southbend C9 lathe i used a multi rib auto belt, works great, only bad thig is to install the belt you have to take the lathe all apart
Does anyone know what happened to David Richards? His “Steam Powered Machine Shop” was a great Utube channel.
Everybody knows it's a ferrier tool for elephant toes… duh
Sounds as though you could benefit from a periodic scanning assistant to make a dent in those manuals. I think I’d split out into a pile of machining manuals and a pile for tool manuals.
The vast number of gifts sent to you is the result not only of your content but also your likeable personality. Keep up the good work.

I doubt it was nearby migrant cat eaters. Fact checked recently.
Keith: Life is ironic. I was looking up your email so I could contact you. Watching you work that Chain hoist and all the things you've taught and shared with the rest of us, I was going to start a gofundme page to purchase you a 1 ton electric gantry hoist. It was something I thought would be a great and very practical gift that many others would likely be willing to join in on. Oh well…. Congrats on the new hoist!
Check around Keith, There are book bindery's that can rebind that Hand book and make it like new.
You had a new puppy dog for a while, what happened to him??
Thank you for these videos.
What is the McMaster carr number for the belting you used for the Southbend lathe? I need some.
Could you lift the new hoist with the one that is on the jib now?
Since it's 1978, that Bearing Manual is also missing something that we are used to seeing today… bar codes or "UPC" codes.
Thanks for sharing Keith
Good morning
I had a watch because of the cat lol
I love Christmas at Professor Ruckers. I’m sure glad you have an electric chain hoist!
Meowrrrrrrrr purrrrrr purrrrrr purrrrrr…
Trig books & interpolation. Now that's a blast from the past.
Hi ginger
My dad had that Sears table saw. Between him and my uncle they got a lot of use out of it. It brings back memories. I was sad to sell it.
2 ,person Crucible tongs
If you like slide rules, there's a slide rule app for Android. So you can have a slide rule on your phone, to calculate inconveniently.
Enjoyed the tour
The bearing manual will be very handy. I also have the manual for oil seals and use it a lot.
Hi Keith and Ginger !
Save the cats
I've seen those 1" rules that had a holder they clamped into for use. Clean work bench? What is the clean of which you speak? I haven't ever had a clean work bench exceept for when it was new!
Great video!!
Wouldn't mind watching how you store each tool in its place, to see the collection grow and the process of sorting and finding a place for each new addition. I understand it would be a lot of extra work.
Thank you Keith…enjoy your work!
Interesting collection of stuff. Thanks Keith.
Thanks Keith
Have you seen how beautiful the capstan looks on Tally Ho!? Everyone did such a great job on it.
Another great catch with the Viewers update Keith. Thanks for sharing!
10:14 belly scratches are demanded.
Ginger says feed me my hairs are falling out
Sorry to hear about your Marion.
Give Ginger a belly rub for me.
That big iron thing you didn't recognize is a leg bone from Paul Bunyan's blue Ox. You gotta be old as Keith to get this one!
nice!!!
Yay for the hoist with buttons! 🙂
The Baldwin Locomotive Works would have been proud of you! And i guess somebody at Vulcan Iron Works took their hint also. TM who likes steam locomotives.
Thank you Keith!
Nice collection of items. And thanks for the info on the sharpening guy. I can definitely use his service. Glad you like the tongs. Be safe sir.
If Marion was a tomcat, he may have just gone cruising for chicks, as it were. I lost a many of them that way, and I had one who would periodically come home to visit from long tomcatting cruises. I'm betting those tongs were for foundry work. If you watch some of the old videos of like Bethlehem Steel or US Steel, you can see teams of men catching hot steel with tongs like those.
Yup. Horizontal surface syndrome.
I have that exact Craftsman table saw. Still working excellent, too!
Has anyone seen or heard from Steve Summers ?
Are they not used for lifting crucibles when carrying out foundry work.
