What kind of twist drill requires that much power to grind?

Interesting show, Keith. It is sad to see all the things the USA used to make – now, unfortunately, we have made another country extremely wealthy by sending our manufacturing processes over there and then having to share our tewch information with them. We didn't learn any lessons from WW-II. THE USA used to be the master of manufacturing. Now – we have to buy everything from other countries. The idiot who claimed to want to make America great again, didn't. Why doesn't someone do something to bring industry back again. Fortunately, Keith, it is guys like you and some others who keep the old tried and true methods alive. I wonder if any modern machinist can do what you do so easily. It's all automated now.

Hello Keith , I've been watching you for a couple years now and I just recently purchased a 1943 Monarch 16 CY lathe . I was having trouble getting the carriage and apron separated so I went back and watched you do it on your model K that is very similar , so that helped me out . I'm glad you mentioned Arnfest and I just registered , so I'm looking forward to meeting you there .
Keith, the play on words you mentioned reminded me of a couple that was into heavy metal. The wife would arn, and the husband would steal.

Keith, you mentioned Poland. I have a good friend and coworker from Poland, and I had noticed at the grocery store that they were selling Scottish style fish made in Poland. I asked him what rivers from Scotland flowed through there, and he stopped and thought a moment, and then he said, none of them!

My own experience with Jim Bolinger is a bit shameful. I initially dismissed him as an "all hat, no cattle" type of guy, and I left some critical comments to that effect. He responded to my criticisms with sincerity and humility, turning my opinion around 180. Hell of a guy.

The Champ is a great drill grinder with a ton of options. Back in the day I met the inventor at Westec and learned a ton about drill geometry. Probably talked with him for over an hour. He wrote a great paper on drill geometry that I referred to for years. He was from back when drilling steel with a breastplate drill where you paid in sweat for poor drill performance.
