Our mission is to collect specimens and gather information about the fauna and flora of the planet. The planet is not helping us much in this regard. A rain-loving predator species dominates these areas. For that reason, we stay indoors in rainy weather and make scientific interventions if they get close. Scientifically, I can say that they have high-protein meats. It is a luxury to look for taste in such tasks, but I can say that it is much more delicious than my last ratburger recipe from the previous mission.

"The outpost is in pretty good shape, honestly. The different crews over the years took really good care of it, so you don't have to worry about that. I'd worry about the rain. The only other time I saw rain like this was when we visited Aunt Ellie during monsoon season. Remember that? I think I was maybe 10?
Anyway, the rain here is almost constant. Something with the geography amplifies the massive storm systems that move across the planet's surface. I dunno…a science team guy explained it to me. I'm only here to keep these guys safe.
The security team is small…just me and five other guys. With the science guys, the maintenance guys, and the doc, we're not even at capacity for this little outpost. Lots of space to spread out. We've got our own bunks. I'm in mine now, watching the rain through the polycarb windows. It's bigger than the room I had on my last contract, anyway. The communal bathroom thing kind of sucks….especially when Erickson uses the last of the toilet paper and doesn't replace it.
I got off shift this morning after escorting two of the sci guys out to a remote sensor array and now I'm supposed to have a 24 hour down cycle, but it doesn't always work out like that. The OT pay is good, so I don't mind working extra. There's not a hell of lot to do out here. Might put on a suit and go for a walk in the rain before it gets dark.
Anyway, I'm gonna head to the mess hall and see if there's some sandwiches and coffee or something. I've got some leave saved up and I'm planning on coming back earthside to visit, if that's okay. I miss you guys. Take care, Mom, and tell Dad I'm keeping my boots dry. Love always, your son."

The predator loves rain. I'm guessing it hunts by scent, as scents are enhanced when it's humid. Maybe we can use that to our advantage. Turn scent into a weapon.
But what do I know? I just collect specimens. I'm a glorified janitor.
We romanticize this, but it would be hard, soul crushing end job on corporate minimal wage. At least there you not confined in overpopulated megacities of Earth
