The great British clergyman J.C. Ryle bemoaned the decline of Christian courage in his day as ‘jellyfish Christianity’, a spineless form of the faith that occurs when ‘courage is eclipsed by cowardice’, and ‘conviction is hijacked by capitulation.’ Modern American Christianity is facing the same challenge.
