Has anyone heard of Florida HB601 that has been proposed for consideration during the next session which I believe starts Jan 6, 2024? It is my understanding that this will take the receipt and investigation of complaints against law enforcement, out of the hands of local officials and give that power and authority to the state. I think this is one of the results of first amendment auditors/ independent journalists dong their job well, making the public and our public officials aware of the issue of police investigating themselves.

Better police training is essential! Body cameras on officers must have the mute function removed. And the release of police body cam footage must be removed from the police department's ability to withhold. If necessary set up a panel of volunteers from the legal profession, preferably not lifelong D.A or A.D.A.'s and set the fee for the footage, at the actual costs of duplicating this PUBLIC information. It is ( I think) extremely important for our country to remove the thin blue line. Remove qualified immunity, let the same panel of volunteers decide if a lawsuit would be appropriate? case by case. And officers must be held accountable for not reporting any crimes against their fellow citizens? to their superiors. We must have these changes in all states. Officers remember that you are civilians. Don't continue to divide us by referring to the public as civilians when YOU are part of the Civil Authority. Thats right the Civil Authority, is comprised of civilians. Its all of us together. Not you versus us. Thanks to Mr. Reyes for his extremely important work!
