Nuclear power is actually one of the safest ways to generate electricity, its just stigmatized because of a few bad cases. We could solve our power needs right now with nuclear if people could get over that stigma.
Nuclear power plant is ideally to be build near a huge body of water because water helps cool it down. Im not sure where you can find a huge body of water in Mars. Unless Mars is very cold.
