‘Now 100 per cent reliant on Americans’: Australian defence in ‘utter shambles’

The Australian’s Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan slams the “betrayal” by the Albanese government over its low budget allocation towards defence.

This comes as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made a major policy announcement ahead of the 2025 federal election, promising to slash HECS debts by 20 per cent.

“What an utter shambles … what a betrayal the Albanese government’s defence policy is,” Mr Sheridan told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“We cannot do the nuclear submarines and a conventional defence force on the current budget.

“We are now 100 per cent reliant on the Americans for our security.”

  1. You are forgetting Trump’s age is 78. He is moving on to accelerated mental decline as he goes past 80. The clarity of his thoughts would be reduced. To make himself look stronger his words and actions would be violent. He has started these violent rhetoric already, that is purely born out of weakness and he wants to portray himself as tough. He will be dismissive of his advisers and would not listen to anyone but himself. He will pass executive orders which contradict with the US constitution and this will result in great political upheaval, social unrest in the country which will be exploited by America’s geopolitical competitors. His ego will be unchecked and he will see himself as a demigod and when he is over consumed by this delusion of being all powerful demigod, the rest will be history for the whole world.

  2. What do you suggest we launder all the Australian tax payers money Into the US industrial or complex Give all our tax $ to all the American war contractors We do not need these weapons we can never match China weapons so we might as well have none The Chinese are not coming here to take over the Americans are we need to build good relationships with China we need to live in this region not the Americans

  3. Airheads are in control, we shouldchave stuck with the French submarine deal we'd have gotten them sooner guaranteed & wed be in control of them, not the Americans government, if we ever get them.
The war would have been & gone before we ever get them.

  4. There Is a plan for Australia down the track – Sit back and wait for it – OUR politicians don't care about fellow Australians – OUR pollies have sold there soul for what ever $ starts floating around and WE will see it all unfold in 2025. – Wait fellow Aussies 2025 is going to be the year – Just remember where Albo built his house because its funny how a road was to be refurbished to his front door. God I hope he doesn't fall off the cliffs edge whilst laughing at as all plebs when he''s pissed , I dont think anyone will hear his cries for help – Not even his future wife – Poor little fella – This is all his doing !!!!

  5. We are 100% relying on a foreign power for our defense? We are close to 100% dependent on another foreign power for our economy! When the geopolitics get complicated, we will be all ruined, said Hanrahan.

  6. I am not as negative about all you naysayers. Remember this is SkyNews and Andrew Bolt he is going to go after Labor.
    Forget that for a moment.
If and this is a very big IF Australia was to be invaded they ( China) would have to go through Indonesia😢 to get here.
Despite you being so negative we have an excellent military relationship with Indonesia which would never agree to that.
Secondly if the enemy ( China) did manage to get a toehold on our country they would have to deal with us the Australians.
My belief is that we would oppose this and launch the most savage and brutal guerrilla war that would make the invaders pay.
Ukraine would look like a picnic. Australians would not allow an invasion.
Closing trade routes and shipments of raw materials to (China) by the (Chinese) doesn’t make sense.
Yes I know the military is at a low point but honestly the military itself is responsible.
You can’t just spend money to get yourself out of incompetence.
The generals and department of defence are not good economic managers.
Too many medals and ceremonies and not enough push ups and grunt work.
    Just saying.

  7. 12,000 miles of coastline, massive oceans and one functional sub, viva Australia! This is not just Labor's doing, this is deliberate negligence by all the major parties but made worse by Labor. Perhaps negligence is the wrong word, sabotage sounds more fitting for what they have done and are doing to this country.
