Norway is raising military preparedness in response to what Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre called the “most severe security situation in several decades”. Støre said there are no indications that Russia is “expanding its warfare to other countries, but the increased tensions make us more exposed to threats, intelligence operations and influence campaigns”. Tensions between Norway and Russia peaked recently after Oslo arrested several Russians over alleged drone operations at critical infrastructure sites. Moscow said Oslo’s “spy mania” was a result of “paranoia”.
