No Man’s Sky is a fabulous game that I have played since launch. It has gone through a legendary rise, fall, and rise again, and an enormous amount of changes, large and small. I thought it would be a good idea to make a guide on how to get into and enjoy No Man’s Sky, for brand new players, or even players who haven’t played in a few years and missed some of the large updates. In this guide for complete beginners to No Man’s Sky, I will start a brand new game on Normal difficulty and walk you through the basics of the controls, the UI, and tips and tricks to help you thrive in the beginning of the game and learn how to improve your exosuit, multi-tool, starship, build a base, explore, do research, and stay alive. This is a completely non-spoiler guide, meant only to help you learn the fundamentals so you can explore and enjoy the surprises No Man’s Sky offers on your own. This guide is meant for you to play along or watch to hear my thought process and see how everything is done within the flow and context of an actual game.

24:52 Storage 0 could use some clearing out (& possibly renaming)! First, refine the goop -> fluids, the resultant (& additional) fluids -> slime, then slime -> mould & mould -> nanites. That frees up 2 slots
Refine the marrow bulb to sodium & install then scrap the grey MT modules, as they only sell for 16 nanites each & are more useful as materials. The C, B, A modules you've /not/ installed can be sold for nanites at a space station, or scrapped: you really want to focus on S, X or ? (Sentinel) modules from now on. This will earn you more nanites & some (purchase-only & expensive) wiring looms along with some other materials. The defence chit can be sold along with the meat & veg (beans), gases (tho they may as well be scrapped: they're worth so little), glass & random rocks such as Aronium or Magno-Gold (or you could refine the latter into gold, silver or other rare minerals). Carry the charts & AM housing with you for random drop pods & building discoveries, & use that MT upgrade (or keep it for a better MT). That should free up about half your storage container! 🙂
For a new freighter my first priority research is ofc the Matter Beam, enabling me to use its cargo slots while not aboard. I then follow this with a System Scanner (the one that came with the freighter is sadly galactic map only), which lets me quickly & easily scan the basics of every planet in the local system without that tedious flying around trying to see behind other planets. After that comes the Exocraft Summoning Room, letting me summon any exocraft with an emplaced geobay to any planet in the freighter's system, then the teleport & trade rooms if I don't have them already
Frigate advice: buy the ones with the lowest fuel consumption. Their expedition speciality (industrial, trade, combat etc) will carry them thru expeditions they're suitable for, & they'll lose -ive traits & gain +ive ones as they level up thru expedition experience. BTW, sending a Supply frigate on any expedition will reduce that expedition's fuel cost, & keeping a Combat frigate locally will provide some extra distraction should you be bounced by pirates while flying, in addition to your Squadron wingmen

Remember to switch your TM tool to its narrowest setting if mining deposits for resources! The difference (in both speed & yield) between the largest & narrowest beam is ~6x. While in a hostile environment, you might consider mining a tunnel at the base of the deposit & using that as shelter while mining to save on your environmental protection
