No mail delivery, government offices closed on Day of Mourning for Jimmy Carter | Digital Brief

Jan. 9 is designated a National Day of Mourning for the late President Jimmy Carter, who died Dec. 29, 2024 at age 100. On this day, government offices and the stock market are closed and the U.S. Postal Service is not delivering mail. Jim Donovan explains and has your morning headlines with weather from Meteorologist Kate Bilo.

  1. The United States is a Republic. It is NOT a monarchy – why does the death of a former President become a National Day of Mourning and forcing government and business to close for the day. I find that problematic as nobody should have the ability to close government services due to the death of any elected official. WE ARE NOT A MONARCHY…..!!!!!

  2. Respect to Prez Carter & family; but why the heck did Joe B close the post offices and no mail on Thursday, Jan 9, 2025? There has been a massive snow and ice storm in the plains and midwest this past week, the mails are back logged by about a week ALREADY, and when there are good weather days like Thursday, mail should be moving. Sorry, but this is a completely ABSURD decision. The postal workers could have been give a moment of silence, extra half hour lunch, complimentary bag of peanuts, or something like that rather than a CLOSURE.

  3. I hate to say this to you people But I don't support politics I'm a Christian not a politician supporter I do not support Jimmy Carter The only person I love and support or love and serve is Lord Jesus Christ and the almighty father in heaven nonetheless I think post office needs to be open on every day Me and my family depend on the mail to get specially getting packages But we're not expecting anything because We didn't order anything recently so that's that like I said I don't care about Jimmy Carter I'm against politics like God is I'm with my Heavenly father on this I care about Christianity not politics I care about reading my Bible and praying to God not reading about politicians In the Bible does say man cannot rule man No man can serve two masters for he will hate the one despise the other You cannot serve God and Mammon both
