It’s over for Nissan. At least, that’s what you’d think from the rumors swirling around online. One way or another, Nissan is seriously struggling. But is this the end for the company? Or is this all an overreaction? Just how bad are things looking for this long-running automaker? And can Nissan survive longterm, or will they need to change from the ground up? Could they possibly merge with Honda?   1. Total cost to own an EV is now less than an equivilent ICE car in 48 states. The infrastructure is also plentiful in most areas, especially now that most EVs can use rhe Tesla network.

    Also we have Brie Larson because they forced her on us as a feminist Marvel warrior who was stronger than all others combined and had no flaws – because, you know, girl power. Unlike a movie like Wonder Woman, the movie was promoted that way too. It's horrible box office flop was blamed on "masagony." In short, she and the movement shes come to represent are insufferable.

  2. What happens long term when you build mediocre product and try to move it with mountains of cash on the hood. There is nothing they have either in Nissan or Infiniti that says unique or best in class. The current Rogue is better than its predecessors but there is nothing that is compelling about it to choose over a CRV, RAV or CX5. What does the Altima bring to the table vs the Camry, Accord or Sonata/K5? The Sentra is nice looking, but it has a week sauce powerplant that nerfs any fun it might be to drive. I drove the Kicks, perfectly comfortable vehicle and decent room for the footprint, but it was a very disconnected driving experience with 140 HP and a CVT, pales in comparison to a CX30. Who knows what will happen with the possible merger with Honda.

  3. I think my parents are probably the best case owners for Nissan CVT products. They're mostly retired, don't put a ton of mileage on, and they don't care about the experience. My mom has had Sentras and now a Kicks, and I think I'd lose my mind driving them; Absolutely gutless and uninspired. My dad has had a few Pathfinders now. That's a much better vehicle IMO.

    If you can make a vehicle that can fit a family of 4, isn't an absolute bore of a ride, and keep it under $30k, you'll probably do fine. Their prices aren't the issue, their products are.

  4. Here’s my moonshot Nostradamus prediction, Honda buys Nissan with the intention of producing a body on frame truck/SUV to finally, truly compete with Toyota and the domestic makers. Honda will develop the drive train but the platform will be Nissans new architecture from the armada

  5. I did Lyft rental for 9 months. Around March, Lyft switched most of its fleet out for 2024 Sentras. They made me give back the Prius I started off with for a SENTRA. Seems like a bad time to put so much literal stock in Nissan when they’re responsible for repairs.

  6. As an Aussie living in Japan, there are plenty of Nissan hybrids on the road. It seems like this company could fix itself but it doesn't have a compelling offering. I bought a Honda step wagon hybrid for the family, rather then the Nissan equivalent. hope they find their feet and keep going.

  7. I feel like you're overcomplicating things. It's the CVTs. That's it. Their transmissions have been blowing up at 50,000 miles for 15 years and everybody knows it by now. It is the primary piece of advice I give to people when buying a car, avoid a Nissan CVT.

  8. We're coming out of the season when fewer cars and houses are financed. Yet the fed increased interest rates, with inflation still being above 2%. There maybe more here than just nissan

  9. nissan needs cheap reliable cars that can be modified into monsters if the enthusiasts do the work. like the 240 or the 90s sentra that could hold a turbo at 10 pounds of boost with stock internals. they need strong non-interference high revving engines/hybrids and a good 4wd system. it always shocks me subaru sells more when there engines are objectively worse than nissan. nissan should be far above subaru. they’re strategy is just super inefficient

  10. Ah. Brought in a SE Asian exec. They are doomed. Two things can happen, the company suffers a massive financial scandal, and the SE Asian deploys the golden parachute, or the entire C suite gets filled with SE Asians and company goes to absolute hell.

  11. For EV's Nissan just left the Leaf to die without major improvements or price reductions. The Ariya is just not competitive with the Model Y. 130kw charging vs 250kw, slow fwd vs fast rwd/awd, lower range and efficiency, worse CCS charging vs NACS, worse cold weather performance with resistive heater vs heat pump. Then at the end of the day it costs more except some lease deals but its not like Tesla isn't giving good lease deals or 0% financing. Then go check out of spec reviews leaf service review to see the service you get from Nissan on your Leaf. They had the lead in EV's and let it go to waste. If they had been competitive in EV's then they wouldn't need to fall back on hybrids. Partnering with Honda( prologue is a rebadged GM blazer ev and their only EV) won't help.

In post-Soviet space Nissan had a pretty good standing at the start of the millennium thanks to Renault dealer network allowing them to actually sell their cars in good numbers + accumulated good will from all the juicy imported RHD models, but Renault's leadership just completely butchered the company by mismanaging every aspect of it, from failed push to be a mid-class marque to that time they sold rebadged Ladas as Datsuns and overall issue with borrowing too much from Renault to the point where it's really not clear why bother with the Nissan nameplate at all. Their only saving grace is Leaf, which is actually a nice cheap EV bug, and pickups/big SUVs in markets where they still sell them. I suppose Honda wants Nissan for both of those since they are far behind in both segments, but idk

  13. Anti-EV slant goes crazy for a channel that seems well-informed otherwise lol.

    "Improving battery tech to alleviate range anxiety" is even more unrealistic than convincing the consumer their range anxiety is unfounded, which is the real answer (the .1% of the population that drive >250mi/day aren't the target consumer).

    There is very little pragmatism in avoiding modern EV's for the average consumer (except for those of us with kids; EVs being comparatively smaller per dollar).

    Plugging in an EV at home every night is cheaper total cost of ownership, there is no argument to be had there.

    OEMs (especially American ones) need to focus on sales volume and customer conversion instead of per-vehicle profit. If GM were building $60k electric Tahoes they wouldnt be able to keep them in stock… $100k+ Cadillacs are too unattainable for middle america to ever grass-roots the "rEVolution".

    Better yet I say all of this while both of the vehicles in my driveway are trucks/SUVs over 6L displacement 💀 EVs have lots of drawbacks from an enthusiasts perspective but few for average commuters.
