NIKON Z 400mm f/4.5 – Photographing birds in flight with 1.4x teleconverter

My Life as a Wildlife Photographer: https://youtu.be/jUlPtnnqShQ
A little more that a week ago I received the new Nikon Nikkor Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S telephoto lens – a pre-production sample.
I have now been photographing wildlife with the lens for several days from my photo blind and birds at the coast line of Denmark.

This is now review, but rather a video showing how the lens performs when it comes to autofocus with and without the Z 1.4 teleconverter.

See you out there…

All the best

  1. Hehe… f7.1 is also the sweet spot I’ve found for photographing action… birds in flight… it’s a good compromised for focus and subject separation, and it doesn’t place too much stress on having absolutely the very best lenses to accomplish this. It works fine with the Nikon 300 mm PF, and also on Fuji, using the XF 100-400 mm (on Fuji, choosing the right custom AF setting becomes paramount to your success)

  2. I love your videos & I have a lot of respect for what you do. I don't like the thank you pop up asking for money though. People are really struggling right now with rising cost of living here in the UK and most of us can only dream of the lifestyle you lead. I'm a farmer's wife but live in a modern house with a small garden…I do my best with a Nikon D7500 & Sigma 150-600 mm contemporary lense. I'll never be able to afford that camera. I would suggest removing that pop up. Why not have something at the end of the video instead? I think it will upset people. Personally if I were going to support you financially I'd rather by a book or some prints.

  3. Hello Morton hope you are doing great. Absolutely love your work. Keep up the good work and keep inspiring.

How do you record video footage from the viewfinder. I have noticed that you don't have a recorder (like the atmos ninja) attached to the camera. So was curious that
    1. is there a way to record the viewfinder without an external recorder, or
    2. you just records the video separately

    Would greatly appreciate the help.

  5. for a wildlife photographer this lens and the other Nikkor phase lenses are a blessing. I just wish we had an equivalent of the canon r6 or sony a9. I'm not gonna buy a fucking $6k camera that is 1.5kg. Hope that something like the r6 or even a mirrorless successor of the d500 gets released soon.

  6. I inherited a bunch of Nikon gear from my late father in law. There is a 300mm f/4 in there that I can’t wait to use. I just have to adapt it to my Sony or get a Nikon body. Love your videos
