  1. So many great, generous people sending fun, tasty and helpful stuff to this lovely family to share their joy with us all- thank you all! Now come on North Dakota and Hawaii! Let's complete that map! 😄❤🗺

  2. You should really try using those koozies people keep sending you, they keep your drink insulated so cold drinks stay cold longer and hot drinks stay hot longer. They're pretty awesome actually.

  3. When sugar is processed from sugarcane it starts out as what we know as demerara sugar. Demerara sugar then gets the molasses stripped out of it to leave us with white sugar. Molasses is then added back to the white sugar to create brown sugar. Brown sugar is demerara sugar with none of the natural nutrients left in it and more molasses and molasses is a byproduct of sugar refinement.

  4. Never use kitchen knives for non food purposes. A kitchen knife is a sacred tool that should always be treated with the utmost respect. Keep your blades sharp, never put them in a dishwasher, always dry them off immediately so they don't get rust spots. The round bar on a handle is NOT a sharpener, it's for honing. Honing is something you do to keep the angle of the blade where it should be. Imagine the edge of a knife like a "Y" where the part that comes down from the "v" part is invisible to the human eye. The "I" part is so thin that, with use, it can bend to a side. Honing is the act of straightening that bend and does not remove any material from the knife. To sharpen you need a whetstone (preferably several with various coarseness) and to be able to keep the knife at the correct angle. Sharpening removes material to make a new edge while honing just straightens out the edge. Hone before each cooking session use and sharpen when it's actually dull. If you keep your knives sharp they should cut easily with minimal effort (the weight of the knife will do most of the work) and if you treat them properly you can give them to your children one day.

  7. Don't worry about exp dates. They are more of a suggestion to get you to throw out things that are still good for another 6-12 months so you buy more sooner. Chocolate is really the only thing that goes off a little bit. If it's candy it may be harder if it's supposed to be soft, but cans and jars are usually good for a long time past the date, and dried packets of stuff even longer. I just had a can of soup I found in the back of the pantry that expired 10 months ago and it still tasted great. You have to remember the USA puts way more artificial preservatives in foods than is ever necessary.

  8. I'm worried you guys are eating too much american food. You're all going to end up fat, lazy, and greedy with diabetes. Just like a true american.

  9. Keep this in mind with the food: If it says "use by" then the food will expire on the given date. If it says "best buy", it doesn't mean the food is expired on the date, it means the nutritional information on the label can no longer be guaranteed.

  10. I love clam chowder. I fell in love with it at my friend's house and his mom gave us some clam chowder and a turkey sandwich. I usually get my clam chowder from Martha's Backyard and some extra clams to bulk it up and have it with a sandwich.

  13. I wouldn't worry about expiration dates on sealed items. They are required on consumables, but they're a best-guess involving many facts that vary wildly among regulating bodies as well as the manufacturers, and it doesn't mean that the item in question is bad in any way. An annoyance that has little relevance except for easily spoiled or degradable goods like milk. And if you ever see an expiration date on something like pure honey, just laugh and consume it without worries… honey may separate over time, but it never spoils, and you can consume the sweet crystals and the clear nectar without fear.
I bet a lot of your "expired" gifts were just fine.

  16. Did anyone else think on that last note that he said "playing around with his first love, meth"? I literally had to back it up a couple times and turn subtitles on… I know drugs are a serious problem and I don't mean to make light of anyone's problems but I just had a chuckle and a bit of a WtF moment and thought I'd share… best wishes to the family!!!

  17. To avoid food snacks going out of date. My advice is check date of posting and arrange accordingly e.g older dates first so like something sent in say earlyfebruary that arrives in late February early March gets priority 9ver something sent in june that arrives in June to early july

  18. I would like to send a small collection of arrowheads I've collected from the Arkansas river here in Oklahoma, but I'm stupid and don't know the legality of your country's import rules. Some things are banned, but I think you would like the display. Some of them are valuable, but as I own them as an Otoe Missouri, I would love to you enjoy them on a wall in your home. Three of them are well over 3000 years old. If interested let me know. There's only one rule as far as I'm concerned. Don't eat them!.ps the whole thing is only about 14 Inches by 12. I'll let you do the metric conversion. 🤠🤠🤠🤠

  19. Of course the sell by dates imply the eat by dates are further out, why……crap preservatives. Stop trying to kill this lovely NZ family with processed snack crap, Bush's sugar filled bean, Skippy sugar filled peanut butter.. There is a reason they call the standard american diet….. SAD. Instead………… I suggest you send them non-edible goods, maybe more appropriate local craft, like the Boston blanket, flags, etc. without the crap marshmallow. Yes, more $$$ but let's keep these folks alive! I know it seems heart warming but really, excitement over some of our American crap, no thanks. Bye.

I so much prefer their execution of recipes.

  20. I liked the onion goggles, I didn't know that was a real thing! I just used to put my Speedo swim goggles on when I was a kid dicing onions.

Also, as a California girl, I NEVER knew what a hushpuppy was until I read through these comments! I like learning about different parts of my own country.

  21. A hush puppy is a round piece of cornmeal cake then fried, during a “fish fry “ hush puppies were originated to give to the dogs to keep them out of the fried fish. But over time they were considered to be a wonderful treat to humans aswell.
