Already subscribed, and for sure I upvoted this video, so I'll just leave a comment: Yes, I would very much like a video on Hart Island. As sad as the subject matter is, psychiatric institutions are fascinating, especially ones on an island.
Thank you for providing quality videos.
My sister ex husband was there for little bit and my father law was guard for 20 years
What's disturbing about segregating thugz from the law-abiding? NYC needs two or three Rikers to handle the recidivism.
Yip I wish wee had an island in uk for the same .. instead of hotel room conditions
Never been, hope to one day
I believe one or two of those Staten Island Ferry’s are located in Panama City, FL near the paper mill there.
You should do one on LA county jail or Cook County jail.
I was there 07-08
Rikers was the worst place I've ever been.
I can think of 100 adjectives to describe Robert Moses (i.e., despicable, heartless, power-hungry, corrupt, manipulative, despotic, etc.). "Esteemed" is not one of them.
Brutalest? Try "most brutal"
I've been on Rikers Island. As part of the construction of the Singer Nursery Beacon facility. (that's what they called it). To get on the island you must pass a security check on the Long Island City side of the bridge. Your car is checked and then you are allowed. If there is a problem while you are on the island you are also locked down until it is cleared. (On time a sagent left his keys in his car and some inmates took a ride) The jobsite was closed for almost a year when someone threw a cigarette butt in a drain and it caught fire from the methane gas created from rotting garbage. A few days before election day I believe it was mayor Kotch had grass sod planted on one side so he could do a press conference outside the "new" jail he just opened to keep the citizens safe. (It was still at least a year from completion. Lots; more stories but not enough time to tell.
New Orleans parish prison and jail have a story to tell about Hurricane Katrina
I was a officer at Rikers in 1972. At the NYC Correction Institute for men. A Captain in 1988 then Assistant Deputy Warden IN 1991. Retired from the Manhattan House of Detention and Courts in 1993.
North Beach Airport, not North Branch.
A video on heart island will be great. Many people don't realize heart island is Potters Field and Potters Field is literally right across from Orchard Beach. Which is the same waters that surround Rickers Island and Laguardia airport. Those waters are filthy and some of the bodies that have been buried on heart island those that were buried by the edges of the island are falling into the water since the edges of the island are just dirt. Many people do not know this and insist on taking their kids to Orchard Beach during the summer. That Beach should be closed down until Heart island is properly fixed..
Goddamn I'm glad I, to this day, having grown up til 14 then mom wanted to move so NJ. it was…I have yet to ever be thrown in this hellhole. Especially considering I did spend some time in Monmouth Cty(NJ)a few years after for doing stupid shit. So knock on wood I never do.*🙌 Born in 81' so you do the math*
They need to close that prison down. Demolish it and build highrise apartments.
Great video, however, the officers & staff are affected by the same diseases & transport them back those illness's plus stress, to family & the community.
A symbol of American oppression
It got around 12or 15 facilities some of then have 2500 to 3000 inmates Many many years ago I heard there were 37,000 inmates there
I spent 3 years in Rikers but it felt like 30 years. You can’t fathom what goes on in there
