  1. I wouldn't say most people are happy to wait considering it's currently sitting at 42% on Steam with most citing the queues or lack of regional servers. There must be some sort of game dev double jeopardy law about botching the launch of the same game twice right?

  2. From what I've seen externally, it looks like a throwback to the many WoW clones that fades into and out of existence. I don't see a hook, selling point, or even an original idea. Hell, I don't even see a good idea. Apparently someone thought morion helmets were cool, and decided to blow millions of dollars building a game where they could be added as an afterthought.

The only thing that New World seems to have going for it is an underserved market. I haven't seen any instance of someone actually enjoying the gameplay itself. Rather, they talk about the stuff they're planning on doing and enjoying later. It's all hype and expectation. Its popularity is bought on credit. If that debt goes unpaid, things will go downhill very quickly.

Also as I look at the game's Wikipedia page at time of posting, New World's genre is listed as "MMORPG, Queue simulator".

  3. As much as getting in on the ground floor of a new mmorpg sounds fun. I'm having so much fun playing ffxiv right now and I need to beat Shadow Bringers before Endwalker comes out in November. My time cannot be focused elsewhere.

  4. Give it 6months before we anoint it with anything. I have seen this too many times with these games. They give you news headlines and 6 months later if they can get 20 or 30k people online through the whole day it is bloody miricle.

  5. New World feels like the end result of a massive company making an MMO by reading the MMO for dummies handbook. Nothing at all inspiring, nothing innovative, the game doesn't bring anything at all new to the MMO genre. There are games with much better character creators, graphics and combat, three things I value when looking for a game to put thousands of hours into.

  6. I'm not "moving on to" New World, i had left MMOs completely behind until the Closed Beta hit and blew me away. So i don't think that New World is just hit by migrating MMO player waves, they are hit by people who have given up on MMOs a long time ago and finally see one that's more profound and what you do ingame is just more consequential to you and the entire server.

  7. I was on for 12 hours straight! That's the problem, once people are in they don't want to quit, it's really fun to grind resources or go through some quests with a few people then have someone join the company and need help so you go back and do them again! With this much pressure, it's incredible the servers have stayed up, I don't blame them for underestimating the popularity, everyone always does, but at least the servers that went up stayed up!

If you join in position 4000, switch servers or go do something else rather than leaving a shitty review, you knew this would happen you should have gotten on sooner!

  8. I feel like part of it is just that we are ramping into the big release season. With a lot of the premiere stuff being pushed/lackluster due to COVID last year, people are looking for those huge, "zeitgeisty" releases. Even if it's nothing special, it is something new.
