Yeah, I’m playing New World. The game is just too big to ignore right now, and how often do you get to jump into a big MMO at the ground floor? These are my initial impressions based on what I’ve played when the queues actually let me in.

Are you playing? What world? What faction? Lemme know. I'm a dirty Marauder. Sub if you like the channel please! – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCg6K8i6OGobyZNoPIsCW9uQ?sub_confirmation=1
If I play I would probably be heavy into crafting and try to become rich
…a rich solo playing hermit! 🤣🤣
Some context about this game: It started out as a much more hardcore PvP game, and until this last December it was still pretty hardcore, at least in combat. As I understand it at some point in the last year or two they switched to a mix of PvE and PvP, which I'd guess is why the PvE side is a bit bare content wise and a few people say it has an identity problem. I suspect given time they'll be able to really flesh it out and I hope it can last long enough to get there, but it's definitely giving this game a rougher start in the PvE department. Small gang and 1v1 PvP in this game can be a blast and was what sold me on the potential of this game, though I haven't made it to high-end content yet.
I also want to throw in some more context on the combat: It actually used to have a lot more depth, though it was a lot tougher. The gameplay was closer to dark souls, in that all attacks briefly stunned enemies (As I understand players got a free roll to escape after the second hit they took) and because of that it was much more important to know the timing of attack animations and when to dodge or block and combat as a whole was heavier. This lent to combat being very skill based and it was awesome, if flawed and rough in places. Then in December the Hatchet was added and it made it rather easy to stunlock because of how fast it light attacked, and new players weren't aware of all of the mechanics of combat and were getting frustrated. Instead of balancing the hatchet or trying to do a better job teaching how to escape such situations, AGS threw out stagger and a bunch of other combat systems, and I'd argue took out a bunch of the depth of combat. It made combat a little more button mash-y and kinda threw out a part of the identity of the game. If you want to see what the old combat looked like, search "New World Combat Discussion" by acolyterush.
Knowing that there was that amount of depth to combat previously in this game gives me hope they can work to add back a similar level of depth. I feel like where this game excels over other MMOs is in the RPG style combat, and any depth they can add will benefit both PvE and PvP in the long run.
FFXIV isn't competitive and is largely a story driven solo RPG, so that is a little bit of a bad take, man. Being behind is more like binging a TV show vs waiting for the next season. I get covering NW because it's relevant, but you should definitely give XIV a chance.
Colonizer simulator. LOL. It is pretty ok though.
You really should give Guild Wars 2 a shot when you have the time. It's super newbie friendly, has good combat and an amazing world to explore.
EU servers have crazy queue times. It's disgusting having to wait 2 hours plus sometimes to get in.
Please do not complain about grind on DAY ONE. MMOs are designed to build up slowly, they arent Destiny.
I want to but try it out but it’s not on console (yet).
Ill never play this. I fuckin hate Amazon i dont want them to get their grubby fingers into another industry
Paul you gotta take a serious try at FFXIV before Endwalker. Like you are not behind at all, I just started playing this month and I feel like I've played since it came out with how they structure their content
Ehhh, not gonna support Amazon
Combat looks way too clunky for me.
I could play for hours in the beta but now i sit in queues all day and play zeroo….try play on a empty server they say…sure but they are all full 😂 😢 💀
I wonder why do many people seem to be so short sighted when covering games these days… They are comparing New World to games that have a decade(or more) of Fixes and additions layered on them… It's just kinda weird how much people expect from a game these days(despite never getting it)..
Sorry but this has got to be one of the most visually unappealing games I've ever seen… Good god, why does it look like it was made in 2004? And the art direction being a mish mash of colonial stuff and fantasy is just gross.
Amazon made a game? Wondering how they will reprogram your brain even more.
I would rather… rather play Greedfall for some reason instead of this.
Does anyone know if it's super heavy on requirements for decent fps? My laptop is decent but not amazing
Watching a Live Stream of New World is about as exciting as watching paint dry.
I gave a really solid try at ffxiv. I was fully prepared to invest a lot of time into it. Purchased expansion bundles. I think it was literally my second dungeon where I ran into some really toxic elitist players. I'm obviously still trying to learn it, and this whole group was trashing on me the whole time cause I didn't understand what they considered "basic" stuff. I mean these dudes were some real dicks. I had to deal with this through the whole time playing that dungeon, trying to explain I was new to game. Didn't work. They didn't give a shit. That was the last time I ever touched that game. I'm not new to toxicity. Spent many years playing league of legends. But running into that and having not just one but the whole group turn against me like that, even though it was my second dungeon was enough for me to say "this game ain't for me." Its honestly quite sad cause I WAS getting into the game, but I wasn't at the "hooked" moment yet. In other words if you plan to explore those older mmos be prepared for the extreme elitist that live in those games. They literally hurt the game they are playing by scaring new players away, and could care less.
The only people that think Destiny is an MMO are the people that have never played an MMO.
It looks AWFUL
I don´t like to call Destiny MMO. MO would be more fitting.. Because calling it Massive just because there are a lot of people around the globe playing it, by that logic we could say Genshin Impact or Dark Souls (or recently Deathloop) is a Massive Multiplayer game because there is certain multiplayer aspect. Bungie likes to call their game MMO, I know, but they are also only one. Digital Extremes don´t call Warframe that and I am inclined to be on that side.. Just Multiplayer Online.
One of the westernesse zeta world with an M
Covenant because we have a clan called onlyfans and it owns a town which is hilarious.
the gameplay looks boring
Wait for the pvp. I used to be an Elder Scrolls Online main. The pvp will be the spice.
Reminds me of Everquest 2 with a Pirate theme.
This really comes off more as you listing a lot of personal problems like not starting games because you feel behind when games are designed to have play-throughs to begin with and not vibing with the colonialist aesthetic because you feel icky, not because it's artistically bad or something.
But the game does sufffer from a thing where the cool stuff is in the end, shit gets whack and the PvP isn't structured yet as the world is unexplored by a huge margin by guilds to make PvP clashes.
This game has some of the worse bounties and story. Super boring 😴 you wanna play a good mmo play ESO
Destiny is an MMO LIGHT
Not a fan of the settlers theme.
So so I want to look like a pilgrim, knight, pirate, mage, or cowboy today
The aesthetic and setting are honestly very meh imo, especially clothes/armor. It's the main reason I don't care about this game.
This game looks so bad. The footage makes it look really clunky. Everyone says the combat is bad, so why continue to play it? Can anyone put their finger on what about this game is actually good or fun? I'm genuinely curious. So many games in Oct makes me think this game will only last 2 weeks.
I'm addicted it's the kind of game I've been waiting for a long time. As long they keep pace with content updates it should be good.
Hell thinking about it the way it's set up just some new weapons and maps would go a long ways
It seems like if this game doesn't vibe with you aesthetically, you probably should try FFXIV. Also I can't believe you haven't given Warframe a serious go yet.
I remember playing a game called RuneScape while being young it looks a little similar.
The game is bad, the people running it are bad, the game is solved, they're going down the blizzard path. It's all smoke and mirrors. There's no potential here.
I'm going to avoiding it just off of the basis of the original plan to include pay to win features on launch. Just doesn't sit right. That and the "pay for convenience" features they still said they were going ahead with.
It's the same reason I avoid Genshin, the gambling aspect is very cringe. As much as the game looks fun, it still shocks me how many people support that game and give it massive praise even after the whole gambling scandals on twitch not that long ago.
Time will tell. Depends on what they do with content. New can often feel great at he start but we have to wait and see what happens over time.
Edit: People need to get over the colonial thing in the game. I know it’s crazy cool to be all feeling about the past we choose to remember but without colonies or growth outward the world wouldn’t be where it is today. If you are living in one of those colonies and aren’t a native of that area and can make a living writing and reviewing games you should feel pretty happy colonialism happened. If you feel so icky over the sins of the past donate all your things some down trodden people and punish yourself forever more.
Extreme take but history is history none of us did the evils in colonial times but we all pretty much benefit from them currently. For the game it’s just a setting don’t worry about it no actual natives were harmed in the making of this video game.
Oh boy you have no idea just how cool the environments get, let alone armor lol and weapons
