  1. I was frustrated to see that while just doing the quests handed to me, I was slowly becoming under leveled to progress the main story, having to go back to mission boards and do random side quests to get leveled back up. Also, they do not reward gear or give enough from drops to keep your gear up to your level… I was level 11 and still had boots i got from level 1 or 2… making you also have to spend time crafting just so you can at least get upgraded gear for all slots as you progress.

  2. As someone in the beta, I think this is a very fair assessment. It doesn't have that rpg feel of getting new skills and spells every few levels. It plays much more to the action side of the spectrum.. more like choosing a kit in a shooter. I do think there's a lot of potential, but one thing you undersold on is the new mmo experience. If you haven't played an mmo at launch, there's just a fun energy and excitement as everyone is discovering new stuff all at once, competing to achieve server firsts, etc. If that appeals to you, this could be a fun game.

  3. i have high hopes for this game since its not a free to play so you can maybe drop and get everything you need in-game and put some effort in it, but seen how things are going on Beta's its probably best to wait and see full reviews…

  4. I am enjoying the Beta, been waiting on a new MMO for a long time, why I play MMO's I don't really know as I tend to be a solo player but I like the interaction with others when it occurs, as a plyer from the early days even before the Alpha this game has changed a lot, what in my opinion will make the game succeed is the players, during the Beta there has been very little negativity. AS you state New World may just need time to get the game where it will be fun, what I really do not want that everybody seems to want is mounts, hell no, for me they ruined GW2.

  5. It's missing a ton of QOL features you'd expect out of a 2021 release game that's officially launching next month. I can't check my inventory while gathering, or while crafting, or doing this, or doing that. There's no hotkey to use an item from my inventory; I have to right click and then click use to use it from my inventory screen or I have to equip it and then tap it, first. Life skills (crafting, gathering, etc) feel oddly balanced in the sense that I can mine a silver vein, get 60 silver ore, and smelt it to gain a ton of smelting levels, but spend forever gathering herbs and crafting stuff to get maybe four or five alchemy levels. The animations are garbage, the voice acting reminds me of a low budget Disney sequel movie, and the weapon design is atrociously bland. For instance, the hammer is literally just a straight stick with a perfectly rectangular head; every faction weapon skin is just the original weapon, but colorful. I can't effectively use a weapon unless I grind that weapon out for hours to match the effectiveness of my current weapons. My storage has a weight limit which wouldn't be a problem if there also wasn't a per-town storage restriction. You can gather other peoples' animal kills before they can get to it. I get taxed for using crafting stations which is interesting in concept but I'm sure the nuance in gameplay will fall to pieces after a month or two. The PVP isn't awful, but certain weapons just feel way clunkier to use, and bypassing a stubborn sword-and-shield user's block is frustrating because they can just regenerate stamina with their block up. I do enjoy the "flag up for more EXP" mechanic though, but I see potential problems of god geared players just sitting outside of starter areas to butcher curious newcomers when said newcomers try the flagging mechanics.

I would say it's like Runescape in many regards save for the fact there's little to no socializing involved. Runescape, however, has a more engaging story.

tl;dr game is uninspired currently, both in gameplay and in aesthetic. It's not terrible but it certainly doesn't feel like A) a 2021 title, and B) like a game made with the backing of one of the wealthiest companies on the planet

  6. The biggest weakness of any action combat game focusing on melee is bad netcode and to my experience there was waay too much desync and rubberbanding for a decent time. They really need to improve their networking. It feels like worse than barebone games like PUBG whereas I expected it to be more towards overwatch considering it's amazon.

  7. I really like it and I'm gonna stick to it well after launch. I just wish they would polish up the game performance more, it's jittery and janky when lots of people are around on my 5800x / 2070 Super. It all feels like a bit of a technical mess. Hopefully this will be improved within a reasonable amount of time.

  8. Dude what are you talking about?!
Elder Scrolls was super bad at release and had to patch itself to where it is now! BUT Final Fantasy 14 was way worse! FFXIV was so bad that it died and had to be re-released!

  9. I hope the game is good at launch. I am very tired of the whole "it'll get better over time" or "at least is a tiny bit better than that other MMO when it launched". As players, we should have higher standards. We shouldn't expect our games to release in unfinished, low-quality states to then get better over time.

  10. For combat, have you considered viewing your character class as the combination of 2 weapons with 6 abilities and not 1 weapon with 3 abilities? I found it swapping in combat across 2 weapons and starting to form a kit around both weapons together very fun

  11. Problem with comparing New World to MMOs like ESO and FFXIV when they first launched is that those were made by Zenimax and Sqare Enix. Amazon has a lot to prove when it comes to making successful video games in general so that is a real concern i have and why i will wait.

  12. The side quests could use a bit more variety, I love the concept of weapon mastery, but more active skills would be awesome, or at least let us use more skills rather than 3

  13. Simplistic (boring) combat and lack of skills is why I've returned the game and gotten a refund. I had really high hopes for this game and hopefully they can improve these systems in the future.

  14. I don't see this as being a big exciting-anything. Maybe it's just me, but I see 'shiny' graphics for an mmo, which isn't saying much, and an incredibly bland combat system which seems to consist of 'hack hack hack, block, spin attack, repeat.. Much like the name of the game, everything i've seen about this seems uninspired and expensive. Admittedly though, I'll take any excuse not to give jeff bezos a single fucking cent, and this game thankfully is giving me plenty of them.

  15. I get the issues with few skills. Keep in mind you carry two weapons and can swap instantly. So you essentially have 6 skills.. For example I can close the gap with a skill, and put down a DoT and switch to my other weapon and use those skills. Or start ranged then switch to melee when they get closer.

  16. my biggest thing and I understand that this will require them to put in more work but I really feel we need more than three abilities or a third weapon slot, I just feel like six abilities are too little.

  17. hey 2 questions. end game dungeon loot – boss drop loot is need/greed/pass for all players in party OR every player in team have his own loot? are there item sets?

  18. Why would people play a game with such an old and boring repetitive quest structure? That stuck out to me as a serious issue that cant just be fixed with a quick patch. Im not sure what the thinking would be behind that. I feel like they are making a game that is outdated in some ways before its even officially launched.

Thats what happens when these giant corporations think they can buy success by merely spending tons of money.

I cant see this game being any more than a curiosity for most fans of the genre.

  19. Sp the only USP they have so far is that the graphics are somewhat more up to date than most current western MMOs; but at the expense of poor combat mechanics, simplistic skill system, lack of character diversity, unimaginative progression and quests. They should have delayed until they had something a bit more compelling than that.

  20. Played about 20hrs so far, game looks great and is easy to get the hang of. I think a couple of things are deal breakers for me, and you touched on a couple of them. The ability for anyone to skin an animal needed for a quest, took me way too long in the starter area to get a boar due to the huge number of people doing the same thing. Secondly, the story, or maybe, what story, I play MMORPG for as much the story as the MMO, and I have no idea what this story is due to the quest structure, I did not connect. Also, as a mage in most games, I saw you having little to no trouble meleeing multiple mobs of the same level, as a mage the constant knockbacks, inability to block attacks and the fact you must aim, where as with melee, facing the same general direction hits the mobs, makes it almost seem like they want you to be a melee class. I tried melee and basically steamrolled every mob I saw with little effort. I'll wait for a few months, patches or years before I jump in

  21. might wait 6 months to get the game. Should be enough time to wait out any potential game breaking bugs, balancing, along with a roadmap to check out future content
