New World Build Guide for the Musket and Rapier, aka, the Musketeer Build. This Musket and Rapier Build focuses on using the Musket at range to pick off both enemies and players, only using the Rapier when enemies get close. This is a PvE and PvP Build that is good both on the landscape while Questing, and also when fighting other players.

The way this Build works is that you’ll always open with your Musket setting the Burning status effect with the Powder Burn ability. This Skill not only deals slightly increased damage, but deals 20% Weapon Damage per second over 9 seconds. Enemies will take damage as they run at you from this Burn, allowing you to finish them off with a second shot or keep weakening them as they approach.
You can then use the Traps Skill to root the enemy in place, finishing it off with another shot or, attacking it with your Rapier if you want to conserve ammo. The general concept with this Build is that you want to fight at range as much as possible, only using your Rapier when absolutely necessary. You will use a ton of Ammo fighting this way, so I’ll also include in this guide how to make this, and where to find the necessary materials.

Craft the best ammo you can and make sure to use it. Steel Cartridges are usable at level 20, so swap to these when you get there. You can craft ammo if you mine some Salt Peter, which is usually found in caves with wolves or animals. Even one node of Salt Peter can be used to make enough Gun Powder to craft 500 Cartridges or more. Also, note that ammo weighs nothing while equipped on your person, but weighs a lot when in your inventory, so top up but don’t carry more than you need.
Always aim for the head when shooting if possible with the Musket, as this guarantees a Critical Hit. This ensures maximum damage, and there are many passives that increase Headshot damage, so this will only get stronger over time. It’s much harder to do in PvP, but it’s easy to begin combat with a headshot while questing.
Don’t rely on the Rapier as your primary means of attack. It’s fine to use to finish off enemies and players, but don’t charge towards enemies to get in melee range unless they are close to death and you can finish them quickly. You want enemies to come to you, and you want to range down any way that you can.
This Build works very well in PvP, but is hard to use against heavily armored opponents. When facing Heavy Armor players, try to keep your distance as much as possible and frustrate them with Traps and Fleche. Keep up the pressure on them, and use Riposte when they get in close to turn the tables on them, and finish them off with Flurry.

Been rocking this build since launch, i love it so much. I feel like such a badass.
Very nice I play musket rapier since closed beta and I agree in every spell u choose! one passive that I will mention that I find pretty useful is greater accuracy really help to keep powder burn up
Can you completely ignore PvP in this game?
Watching Cas get those huge explosions in those large groups of enemies during the war was awesome! Also I adored Romeo, so good!!!
I'm trying to decide between musket and rapier vs musket and spear
Level 19 thus far. Musket + Rapier. I'm enjoying it very much so far. This is a nice newbie guide to help get you started and give some general basic tips a newbie wouldn't know.
I like this build and feel like a musketeer 😆.
literally didn't show us the actual build though
Thx =]
Hammer and Fire staff build?
I liked the rapier at first but then I switched to axe. Rapier takes too long to down an enemy (pve). I havnt really started pvp yet so not sure if rapier is good.
It's absolutely gut-wrenching to see musket builds, especially if people want to use them for PvP. I advise anyone running a musket to swap to something else before they get too deep if they are PvP focused. While it's fun to land some nice headshots, the reality is that there are simply way too many better options for PvP. It's so bad the Faction leaders are pulling the musket mains out of the roster when they call role-call for Wars. It's, that bad in anything but open world zerg PvP.
Thanks for posting the build though, I'm sure the PvE players will appreciate it. 🙂
What about hatchet and musket?
Great video, looking forward to more of these!
Can you do rapier and ice gauntlet at some point, please? Loved the video!
i prefer using bleed build for my rapier, the extra dots come a long away against players and bosses during expos
ok let's be real. each weapon has a total of six abilities to choose from. are build guides really necessary for this game?
What about rapier and bow?
I’ve been using the musket and my years of FPS have made me really overpowered
props to the artist who drew the picture on the thumbnail
How well can you play pvp from asia? I am just too scared to even try. Also if you wouldn't mind sharing where in Asia do you live. I understand you are on eu server
great video. I really wanna play this spec and I’m pretty new to the game. What other weapon can I equip for expeditions to match the stat choices for this build if it’s poor for pve?
Thanks.
What is your opinion on the spear? It has a ton of cc that can help u get a free sticky bomb or trap, and it’s made through engineering so it can help out leveling professions faster since you obly rely on that one instead of 2 like musket and rapier.
Hmm I prefer spear but rapier doesn't seem bad either.
Screw AOE bomb, grab shooter stance for the x5 shots. Also, you forgot the perk that gives you 10% speed boost after a dodge for 3 seconds. Get to level 3 dexterity so that dodges cost 40 stamina, and then grab the perk. You can abuse this to essentially get a permanent 10% speed boost. You just dodge twice, leaving you with 10 stamina and giving you the speed boost. When your stamina hits 41, dodge again to keep the boost going. Rinse and repeat. So long as your stamina does not hit 0, you can keep the boost going without the boost stopping. Rly good for traveling and escaping pvp. Be in mind that light armor is required.
This is the build I’ve been using. And I love it. Only I’ve been using Medium armor because 1.) it looks cool, and 2.) 10% less damage is a trade off for 10% more burn on my musket fire dot damage. But mainly because I love the Warhammer Witch Hunter look that comes with Medium Faction armor. I wish they would open up the skin change (WoW Transmog) for this game to allow more options…
Using Flurry after Riposte? you'll lose the stun on the first hit
why tf is thjere no rapier part to this video its only ab the musket wheres the rapier shit
Bad build
I thought you guys got banned from this game. Yall get your account back?
Muskepier build
Nobody watches my gameplay videos. I wish I could talk like you 🙁
How about spear + musket?
Hatchet build next please.
I Completely used the wrong abilities, thanks for this guide!
Can you use this for doing quests ?
There are many viable builds depending on team comp, content, and personal playstyle, but I get the feeling this was just the first one this guy tried, so that's the video he made. This is going to be frustrating for a lot of people considering the way mobs work in this game. If you want a clean, fluid, high-damage rapier/musket playstyle, focus on your power shot from the Sharpshooter tree to get as much health down as possible and then burst down what's left with your rapier using the Blood tree combos. Basically, this video is an example of what not to do.
