  1. Now manufacturers just need to match the 15 years battery warranties (since there’s low risk) and that will make ev sales and the used market take off. As someone who buys used I realise the risk of a battery failure is tiny but if it happens it’s catastrophic. If manufacturers can absorb this low risk with warranty’s that will make a huge difference

  2. That’s only a study. It doesn’t bring any real results or evidence. Studies are meant to be taken with a major dose of salt.
Also, EV sales were down 43% across Europe from this time last year and EV sales in Germany were down 70% last month. Actual numbers. Go look it up.

  3. EV is the future. Oil cannot be available forever (it's a limited resource). Hydrogen cost issue has not been really solved in the last 20 years, it probably won't be anytime soon. Ev battery is increasingly "good enough" (range, density, wear-out…). The laggards can embrace ICE (like German car companies), but when EV is everywhere and the new ecosystem surrounding EV is widespread, the whole ICE industry can vanish and drag with it the country (job, social stability, political stability…).

  4. EV sticker price still needs to be at parity with or below that of ICE. Preferably below, because that is the only incentive for the majority of buyers once the early adopters and rich people have been exhausted. That is the thing that will get their attention, and then they will start considering an EV.

I notice that the MG HS PHEV has been lowered to $34k for the old 2022 and 2023 models, to make way for the new ones. But the sticker price of the petrol version is still $29k.

PHEVs and BEVs also need to be $29k.

  5. It's like solar panels. They haven't been around long enough to know exactly how long they will last.

The new addition to redneck culture, will be a bunch of old EVs in the front yard that are powering the trailer.

  6. Toyota has developed a new vehicle painting process that uses tiny nozzles spinning at high speed and centrifugal force to sling tiny paint droplets at the vehicle surface.  They claim up to 95 percent of the paint is actually applied vs 65 percent using conventional atomizing spray guns

  7. so the reason china has those EV graveyards is that when china wants to compete with the rest of the world; the government dumps venture capital into tons of startups; the result is that all have too much competition and their customer base spread too thin and most of them go bankrupt, so for every BYD created there’s 10 electric car companies that went bankrupt, and thats why you see those graveyards. its the same as why there were piles of bilkes graves in china about 10 years ago.

  8. My 2018 Model 3 LR is about to click over 100,000 miles. No problems. No issues. I replaced the entire front control arm and sway bar link as a kit because I was getting a clunk from the front suspension. This is normal wear for any car. Normal wear parts are going to wear out, but the battery just keeps going. Oh- and my brakes were still above 90% good as I checked them.

  9. The issue is that if real consumers are reporting real problems with their EV batteries, and are being hit with real repair estimates of $10k-$20k+, then that's a real problem with the market and not a rumor to be debunked. It's wonderful, and very important, that current batteries are improving in durability and that vendors like CATL are able to warranty their latest batteries to 500k-600k miles. And, that knowledge needs to be broadcast. Keep in mind, however, that the average age of a light-duty road vehicle in the US is 12.6 years nowadays. Key question: are these battery warranties – past and present – transferable to subsequent owners? Used EV buyers seem to be bearing the brunt of the spent-battery grief.

  10. There's a Youtuber who bought a 2014 Fiat off another Youtuber (who had himself only just got it, and was his first EV) because it's "battery was dead". All it needed was a new component in the controller (the computer was faulty and couldn't "see" several cells) and it was good to go. Obviously it wasn't as good as new, but far from "dead".

  11. Modern cars – both EV and ICE longevity are limited by electronic or computer components aging out rather than traction batteries or mechanical parts. Most EV battery packs fail not because cells fail, but BMS module failure first. Further complicating the issue is difficulty in repairing such issues, often battery packs are integrated tightly in car's chasis. Even a small resistor or capacity fail would require expensive labour cost to diagnoze and repair one single electronic component.

  12. It is hard for black mass to cost $10k/ton if we know that new CATL LFP battery of 60kWh cost $4k-5k at around 800kg, lets say $6k/ton. Your information is really old.
Real price of black mass is around $3000 in 2024, $2-4000 actually, depending of purity and content.

  13. 13 year old PHEV with 16kwh battery (6kwh kept in reserve). 140k miles on the car. brand new the car got 32 miles ev range per epa. currently only getting 45-55miles of range. what a rip off. i will never buy another ev again. my insurance went up from 19 to 21 bucks per month! ive had to spend an extra 7usd/mo for electricity while only saving 2000 usd in gas my first year. ugh. and to top it off, i paid 6k for my car and its only worth 9-10k now according to autotrader!

  15. I still have the original battery in my 2015 Leaf which I have owned for 8 years now. I can get 40 miles out of it on a single charge mixed city/hiway driving with A/C set to 60° F, this is Houston, Texas after all, which is still plenty of range for almost all of the driving I do.
