Mat and Yianni have gone head-to-head in SO many drag races, but this is the first time they’re facing off in an off-road challenge!
We’ve got Mat in the new Ford Ranger, and he’s going up against Yianni in a Toyota Hilux!
So let’s see how they compare. Starting with the new Ford Ranger, it’s powered by a 2-litre twin-turbo diesel, that can produce 205hp and 500Nm of torque. It comes with a switchable AWD system as well as a locking rear differential. It weighs in at around 2,400kg, and it costs from £39,000.
Next up it’s the Hilux. This is equipped with a 2.8-litre turbo Diesel engine that can put down 204hp and 420Nm. It also comes with some off-road capabilities, including a locking rear differential. It’s lighter than the Ford, at 2,100kg, but it’s also a bit more expensive, at £44,000.

Can I just point out the tyres in the hilux? It did super well considering it was on what looked like normal road tyres compared to the ford's off road tyres.

I live on a farm in deepest darkest rural Perthshire and I used to own a Ranger (two actually). I now own a Hilux. The ranger was better on road and for towing (mine were the old 3.2 version). But the Hilux (3.0 litre) is better off road, it's 7 years old now and literally everything on it works perfectly. The Ranger had a crank seal leak, a failed transfer box, numerous electrical issues and kept getting water in the fuel system. Hilux; just works. If you absolutely NEED one of these things and your livelihood or indeed life depends on it, buy one with a Toyota badge on it.

Just wish the Hilux was also on Mudterrains, Tyres make a big difference in these conditions. Other than that was a great episode! Great seeing Yianni on the offroad challenges.
Nice challange! Both the offroad are at an higher level, although the not so extraordinary powerful engines they have (compared to the weight of the cars). Interesting final score! Yanny is a funny character.
Should do the same race 10 years from now and the Hilux would win everything, because the Ford would of broken down so many times it's at the scrap yard being turned into a toaster.
